If Barack Obama becomes president, is it safe to say that most of the country is not racist?

I'm wondering what kind of effect an Obama presidency would have on the black community. To whoever asked, I live in Hollywood, CA, which is probably a much more diverse place to live than yours. The question is not racist in any way. I'm simply wondering what it will take for people to believe that the majority of the people are not racist.

  1. Their lack of racism would be obvious.. just like their lack of intelligence..
  2. No, it just means that most of the country want a better leader. Based on your question, you probably don't get a lot of contact with the black community or any ethnic minority groups. Do you live in a red state?
  3. Your question itself is subtly racist if you think about it.
  4. no but it would be safe to say down the tube
  5. Blacks need to get over the thought that white people are out to get them. Maybe if minorities became more color-blind, white people would too.
  6. It would show that racism is receding into the past. However, I think it will rally the racists, too.
  7. Because I may or may not vote for a man of color has nothing to do with whether I am racist or not. (which I am not). But Barack is mixed isn't he?
  8. We're at a point in our history where this election cannot be about race. His election may not signify an end to hundred's of years of racism but it would definitely send the message that we need a true leader and even those with prejudices acknowledge that the need for leadership is more important than personal bias.
  9. Of course most of the country is not racist. If it was me and the rest of my minority friends would have it even harder.plus my best friend mike would be named jose!!!
  10. Who is seeing color first? Affirmative agenda... "they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
  11. nothing! Why does everyone have to bring race into things when they shouldn't exist! BTW, I hope he never becomes pres. He's too inexperienced.
  12. No it would not say that at all. I would wager that the voter turn out will be much less then 50%. So it is doubtful there is any mandate. Don't get your hopes up. Nov 08is a long way away. And also, most of the country IS rascist. Especially those who will vote for Obama because he is black.
  13. We might all be surprised!
  14. Sorry, but you really can't use that as criteria for determining the level of racism in the USA.
  15. Yes, not racist, just stupid.
  16. I do believe that most of the country is not racist. Obama has my vote.
