Where do people get the idea that Senator Barack Obama is a Muslim??

I think a great deal of Americans actually think he is a Muslim. It is really sad, in my opinion. The fact is, that Obama's Kenyan father was raised Muslim. (Keep in mind that Kenya is a Muslim nation). His father converted to Christianity, before dying at a young age. Today, Obama is a member of the Church of Christ, and he is a devout Christian. PROVE TO ME I AM WRONG! From what I see on the answers to other questions people seem to think he is Muslim. Where does this come from? A couple people have said he converted Christian. If this is true, prove it! He is a member of the United Church of Christ, and always has been. And one of you said "so what if he is a muslim." Good point. I honestly wouldn't vote a muslim, but most muslims are very good people. There are just those radical terrorists who give them a bad name.

13. People say that it is GOP mudslinging, but the most virulent purveyors of this myth aren't republicans, they are democrats! Specifically, supporters from Hillary Clinton's camp. I haven't heard any of the republicans say a single bad word against the man, it is all coming from Clinton. Everything from his drug use (which he admitted to) to his Muslim background which doesn't exist.
14. I can't speak for other people but it seems to me that a lot of american people like to make assumptions. My father is Muslim and my name is Arabic and when I tell people my name and the origin of it they assume I am Muslim too.

19. People who are educated about Barack do not think he is muslim. I think it's fear. He's different, he's black, he has all these *crazy* (wonderful, if you ask me) ideas, they want to say something bad about him. His middle name is Hussein, and he lived in Indonesia for a few years. So what? I've read his book, Audacity of Hope, I've met him, I've been following his campaign for the last 6 months... I wouldn't care if he were muslim. He has a wonderful vision for America. Of course, he is not muslim. He is an honest and caring guy, happens to be a Christian. I do my best to tell people about the truth. Usually when people hear about his childhood, they get a little quiet, because he didn't have it that easy, and that deserves respect. Also, to the person who said he's not American... judging a person by only their last name, which happens to be foreign, is xenophobic and the tiniest bit racist. If his name had white origins you wouldn't mind, but a foreign name is scary? *sigh* People need educations.

21. I wasn't going to respond to this until I read Sundown's comment. Seriously...why do you think he's not an American? Because his skin is brown and his name isn't something you recognize? Or because he's intelligent? You should be embarrassed, dear Sundown.
22. According to Muslim law, ethnically he is a Muslim as being Muslim comes from the father, unlike Judaism where being a Jew comes from the mother. That being said, he is clearly a Christian and belongs to a rather radical Christian congregation in Chicago. If Romney being Mormon is a topic, Obama's home congregation and his pastor's principles is easily as much of a topic, not that he is ethnically Muslim.
23. In most countries like Kenya, if the dad is Muslim then the kids are too. He does have a Muslim name, which I think scares some people.
24. Ugh. It drives me crazy, because people use that against him--and use his name against him, equating it to "Osama," which is just idiotic. No, it doesn't matter what religion he is, really; but yes, it bothers me when people use information that is WRONG to try to bring a candidate down. It comes from his last name. And the fact this his father was Muslim. And, to be frank, the fact that people are just uninformed and simultaneously trying to grasp at anything they can find to bring a good candidate "down."
