Was Senator Barack Obama naive in stating he would meet with other nations without conditions?

Democrat presidential candidate Hilary Clinton stated that Obama was naive in stating he would meet with other nations without preconditions. Do you think Clinton was right about him. Is he naive and why? No, sh!t, Col. Mortimer, but that wasn't what I was asking. I think you better look at yourself before you call someone stupid, Einstein.

Public Comments

  1. Obama must realize that was probably the most naive thing he could have ever said
  2. I think Clinton was mistaken. I would prefer a president who would, for the most part, choose diplomacy before warfare.
  3. It was naive. Obama represents an idealistic view which, while it is desirable to many, is not realistic. Sort of like an innocent child.
  4. A good negotiator rarely meets with the other side. You never want to put yourself as the be all and the end all in a negotiation. That's why we have diplomats and others to work thru. Obama is naive but I like his spirit.
  5. Obama is once again simply pandering to the Looney-Lefty base by saying the opposite of what every other sane person would say. History has taught us over and over again that giving credence to the whims and wishes of two-bit dictators only leads to death and destruction. Google Chamberlain and Hitler if you don't believe me!
  6. Yes, he is naive. A US President is a very busy man with a lot of responsibilities. He cannot be called upon at the whim of any world leader who chooses to invite him over for a visit, or chooses to come here for a visit. To do so would leave him with the option of refusing to meet to attend other matters and potentially insult a foriegn leader. Conditions can be set, or ignored by the President at his/her (and pray it is never Hillary) discretion, but it should never be off the table.
  7. He is naive ..period
  8. No, preconditions undermines our diplomacy. If we told Iran that we wont talk with them until they shut down their nuclear program and they then shut down the nuclear program what else do we need to talk about. We cant tell people to meet our wishes before we engage in diplomacy. No one asks us to meet preconditions Saudi Arabia doesnt ask us to stop supporting Israel before they talk to us and allow us to sell them weapons. We should not use our global leverage to make people do what we want Obama is ready to end the contingency diplomacy that Bush has made popular. Hillary not only attacked Obama but showed that she is not ready to give up her washington ways.
  9. I think every leader should be engaged but not blindly and not without preconditions. To walk in blindly is just stupid.
  10. I think that he was correct. We need to meet other countries and understand who they are and what they want. Ignoring them does not work. Fighting them with words or weapons only strengthens them. We do not need to be friends but we can't call them the evil axis of power. I think that Ms Clinton is too much of the status quo. She has to understand the diplomacy of the past does not work. If she need an example, she needs to look at this administration and how they have screwed up our image in the world.
