Barack Obama?
I'm doing a research project on the 2008 presidential candidates. My question... is Barack Obama the first Afrian American presidential candidate? If anyone could fill me in, I would appreciate it.

- I think Al Sharpton was running last time around. Of course, he didn't get to be the Democratic candidate. Also, Jesse Jackson was running for the nomination a few years back.
- No, Jessy Jackson was the first but Obama is the first Muslim candidate. I know people (and he says he's a Christian) but I also know that Muslims lie as part of their religion like when Arafat said he's die for his country why wouldn't he lie for it.
- I believe Jesse Jackson has run for President.
- No he isn't. Jessie Jackson ran in 1984 and was doing well until he referred to NeW York as Himey town. A slur about Jewish people. I believe someone else ran just after Slavery was ended.
- No, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton ran for the presidency. And I believe a black woman ran for the presidency too.
- Willy Clinton was our first Black president that won.
- Al Sharpton ran in 2004.
- Baracka Hussein Obama,Jr. (legal name from public records) is a closet Muslim, now an apostate for ostensibly his abandonment of the Muslim faith. Being an apostate under Sharia (Muslim religious law) subjects him to the death penalty. No "African-Americans" have previously run for president, however, a couple of Black candidates, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have run briefly. To qualify for the term "African-American", one would need to be born in Africa (a continent with many countries) and also be an American citizen. Further, the name of the specific country would need to precede "American". The nonsense of the "African-American" label for Blacks was promoted by the self-appointed representative of Blacks, Jesse Jackson, and that should explain why it is a misnomer and inaccurate!
- NO! Jesse Jackson 1984 and 1988 Alan Keyes 1996 and 2000 Al Sharpton 2004
- First off, don't believe the hate hype spewed by john c. Like the saying goes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. John c knows little of his own faith (if he has one) let alone what little tidbit of knowledge about the Islamic faith he may have got from FOXNEWS. Now to answer your question. There have been several African-Americans candidates for presidents over the past 40 years. Yes African-American is the most appropriate term. Dick Gregory - 1968 Shirley Chisholm -1972 Jesse Jackson -1984 & 1988 Alan Keyes - 1996 & 2000 Al Sharpton - 2004
