Did the republicans reject Mitt Romney because he changed his views on Pro-Life?

"But remember, it was the base that rejected Mitt because of his switch on pro-life, from pro-choice to pro-life. It was the base that rejected Mitt because it had issues with Mormonism. It was the base that rejected Mitch, Mitt, because they thought he was back and forth and waffling on those very economic issues you're talking about. So, I mean, I hear what you're saying, but before we even got to a primary vote, the base had made very clear they had issues with Mitt because if they didn't, he would have defeated John McCain in those primaries in which he lost.: Per Republican Michael Steele

  1. It was the fact that the religious right did not like him being a Mormon. They called Mormonism a cult.
  2. Actually no I think McCain was used as the fall guy.
  3. He could of won with the mouth he has on him and then they would have to clean up their own mess.
  4. Michael Steele is a blessing to all comedians and political talkers. Romney had to win Iowa or New Hampshire to stay in the race. 60% of Republican likely voters polled in Iowa also identified as evangelical Christians; and Mike Huckabee was his opponent. However, he did not lose because of prejudice against his Mormon faith, but rather because he was perceived as inauthentic by the electorate.
  5. It depends on which Republicans you refer to. Many in the religious right were wary of him because of his Mormonism and his flip flopping on abortion. However, there were a great deal many other Republicans (fiscal conservatives) who backed him as a good candidate. I would have liked to see him get the nomination, not because he and I are both Mormons, but because I think that he could have appealed to moderates better than McCain/Palin did.
