Why did the moderates not vote for John McCain in 2008? (Hint: Sarah Palin)?
I'm a moderate who *did* vote for McCain in 2008, primarily because of military/national security issues. I have spoken to lots of people (I'd say 10-15) who would have voted for McCain but did not because of Sarah Palin. Even with the economy he still maybe would have lost with a Colin Powell or someone high profile like that, but a lot of people (10-15) have told me Sarah Palin lost the vote, even McCain is now blameing Palin with innuendo. He choose her thou so he's accepting the blame. Anyone agree with me?
Public Comments
- it was because McCain is a left wing looser...rino. when he jumped on board with the banker bail out. everyone saw he was a spend happy idiot
- that is not a hint. That is a well known documented fact.
- So now you can go back and tell them how stupid they were. Congrats to all the morons that fell for the attacks from the left. For McCain to go after her now, screw him also, I hope he strokes out and dies the traitor.
- No. Obama got elected, now anyone can.
- Why ask a question if you are going to answer yourself? Why don't you just post how you lack confidence in your intelligence and reasoning and need the agreement of the masses of drones out there in order to reassure yourself.
- not because of Sarah Palin...they voted for the hype, brought on by the media, Hollywood. Wait until 2012.
- As a moderate Libertarian, Palin is the ONLY reason I didn't vote for McCain. We could have had a center-right president, but no, he had to constantly warn us that that walking monument to idiocy would be president if he kicked the bucket.
- Interesting, I know folks who were planning not to vote at all until McCain picked her. Maybe he should have stepped down and let her run. McCain was not a good choice at all but certainly better than this marxist.
- I am sure many voters were turned off by Palin. However, had the media done a fair assessment of her and showed what she has accomplished as Governor, McCain would be President today. Had Palin ran with Obama she would have been portrayed with honesty. Instead she was blatantly slandered by most media outlets.
- There were 3 major problems with John McCain's campaign 1. Sarah Palin 2. Joe the Looser. Like it or not, people do not relate to some fat slob who is in his 40's and still lives with his daddy. He is complete waste of oxygen, he is a total looser and no one would want to associate with that kind of person. 3. McCain offered a lot of gimmicks and people saw through it. I agree Palin was a big problem, but there were others.
- I'll speak for myself. In spite of being a Rockefeller Republican and looking for Republicans to vote for, I will never vote for anti-freedom nitwits like Palin, Huckster, Jindal, and so forth. The R Party need to come home and support freedom. They need to put their faith in the individual, not psycho hypocrites like Gingrich who is a "do as I say, not as I do" liar. I would love to vote R in 2010. I doubt I will. Not because I abandoned my principles; but, because the R Party abandoned theirs. Government intrusion into private decisions was always poison to R thought. What happened to my Party?
- I might agree but, I believe we should re-interview those 'lots-of-people' again now that they have got a good listen and look at the alternative, Joe sir gaff-a-lot Biden. They were willing to risk national security for an opportunity to have Joe bouncing-off-the-walls Biden as the VP. I don't think that was their intent. No matter what you thought of Palin, this loony tune is quite clearly a step down.
- Yes. She was just a godawful choice. He was just trying to be "historic" by picking a woman, and thank goodness people weren't fooled.
- I also voted for McCain but primarily because of Sarah Palin so they actually gained my vote with her.
- The whole thing will work out probably. Unless B.O. legalizes all of the illegals in the country. Think of McCain and also compare it to Gerald Ford. The party will recover, with Regan kicking Carter's ass being replaced by Romney kicking obama's.
- Yep. I am a Republican who ended up volunteering for the Obama campaign precisely because of the braindead bimbo McCain selected as his running mate. I refuse to vote for a Vice Presidential candidate whose IQ is 30 points lower than mine.
- WeatherVane McCain was on Letterman recently and pretty much admitted he made a mistake selecting "dumb as a box of rocks" Scarah Failin.... Letterman was too gentlemanly or Ill informed NOT to have asked the follow-up question "was it you or the RNC, who selected Scarah my poster child for Abstinence Only Evangelical daughter got Knocked Up Failin"..... Oh and BTW, now that's its expedient, he's AGAINST torture AGAIN!!!!! Never ceases to amaze me how the top .5% of Richest have BAMBOOZLED the 47% of poorest Americans to vote against their own self interest!!
- I think she was only part of the problem. I think the biggest problem was that Democrats spent most of the campaign linking McCain to Bush. Have you forgotten the "McSame" chants?
- I'm afraid I do and it is a sad commentary on the state of the Republican Party. McCain would have made a great President, so would Mitt Romney. There were a lot of factors operating in that election including a whole lot of folks that had never voted before, were politically naive, and failed to examine the issues. Some of the financing of that election wouldn't bear close examination either, especially those contributions under $200. McCain's biggest problem wasn't Sarah Palin, it was George Bush.
- "I have spoken to lots of people (I'd say 10-15) who would have voted for McCain but did not because of Sarah Palin. " Either you're lying or the people who have spoken to you are lying. I caught one liberal here on Yahoo answers in such a lie. Not once, but several times she claimed that when McCain chose Palin as his running mate, thats when she crossed over to support and vote for Obama. So I looked up her posting history and found her quite often declaring her support and intention to vote for Obama MONTHS before McCain chose Palin. I posted my findings and she responded by switching her posting history to private. liveandd writes: "Yep. I am a Republican who ended up volunteering for the Obama campaign precisely because of the braindead bimbo McCain selected as his running mate. I refuse to vote for a Vice Presidential candidate whose IQ is 30 points lower than mine." See? another phony. Lady, you are NOT a Republican, nor were you ever a Republican. His choice of Palin had NOTHING to do with your support for Obama. What did they know about Palin before McCain chose her? Nothing. Moose writes: "What happened to my Party?" Nothing, since the Republican party was never your party. You're not or never were a Republican, so stop the charade.
- Although McCain, the mythic war hero, was strong on national security issues, he listened to the wrong advisers about his VP selection. His pandering choice to Clinton supporters was more than obvious, but his main problem was the failed economy (of which he had no clue) and his deep connections with Bush 43-voting in lock-step with the president and other Republicans over 93% for 8 years.
- Mccain would have lost no matter who his VP choice was. The Media picked their guy and their guy won.
- McCain was trailing Obama badly in the polls from Sept 2007. Palin was added to the ticket in Sept 05, 2008 which shot him ahead of Obama until Sept 17, 2008 when the public found out what an airhead she is which put them back behind Obama until the election. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html
- Palin was simply the icing on the cake that ensured a Democratic victory last year. Certainly, Palin had a mostly negative reception by "middle of the road" fence-straddlers, but it would ultimately be the falling house of cards also known as the Bush economy that would be the undoing of the McCain campaign. "The fundamentals of the economy are strong."
