President Barack Obama will receive a honorary degree in law from the university of norte dame next month ?

Norte Dame President John Jenkins invited Barack because he is a fine leader. The student body approves of the President speaking to the graduating class with over 70% vote. Do you approve or disapprove

  1. I think that he doesn't necessarily deserve a reward especially since he's only been president for 2 months and doesn't have much experience in law. There are other people that are more worthy of being honored, such as judges and lawyers, who have put away murders and have fought longer than he has been alive for the law and for justice. Sure, I wouldn't care if he spoke to the graduating students. I mean, I wouldn't mind him coming and speaking to me whenever I graduate, but he's done nothing special other than being black and being a president thus far. Edit- I am very much aware that he has a law degree but can you tell me exactly what he has done that has made him so worthy of any type or reward, before the election or after, this far? I think it's ridiculous that there are judges as well as others that have law degrees, that make this country what it is. Without the hours, time, and patience of judges and hardworking lawyers alike, we would be a country infested with terrorist groups, killers, rapists, and thieves running wild. I'm just curious as to whether he would have received the same degree if he didn't run for the presidency.
  2. I think it's hilarious that a church that hid and protected child-rapists and tells an entire continent with the highest number of AIDS patients on Earth that condoms will kill them is calling OBAMA immoral. I think he should have turned them down - he's far too good for them. EDIT: The first poster IS aware that Obama has a law degree from Harvard and was editor of their Law Review, right? Maybe not.
  3. The sitting President of the USA is a prestigious "get" for a school. The only ones who need to approve are the graduating students. It is traditional to grant an honorary doctorate in something to graduation speakers. Hilary Clinton is getting an honorary Doctorate of Laws for speaking at NYU graduation. Stephen Colbert got a DFA from Knox college a few years ago. BTW -- President Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago for 12 years. Plus that LLd from Harvard Law.
  4. Disapprove. As a Catholic university, Notre Dame is obligated to follow Catholic doctine/teachings. On June 18, 2004, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement with the following: "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions." Notre Dame and Fr. Jenkins chose to ignore this. Not only are they inviting Obama to speak, but they are HONORING him with an honorary degree in law. Frankly, it is an embarrassment for Catholics everwhere.
  5. Norte Dame traditionally invites a new chief executive to address its graduation class: like Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. The president will Travel to the South Bend Indiana on May 17th to speak to the graduation class and receive, as also is traditional, an honorary doctor of laws degree Norte Dame University doesn't judge a person on one issue ""I may disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it'' The Catholic Church isn't interested in joining the ''religious right cult'' 97% of the graduating class want to hear President Obama It would seem that the GOP and the ''religious right'' are going to have to look elsewhere, and to another generation, for their single issue voters!!!!
  6. We will be honored to have him. There are some pro-life groups protesting to keep pro-choice officeholders of any religion from speaking at Catholic schools. The pro-lifers use abortion to lead Catholics into the religious right movement. Our South Bend Bishop, who usually attends the graduation, has said he'll boycott this years ceremony President Obama is Christian, not Roman Catholic, but is judged unworthy because he doesn't share our moral values on abortion, stem cell research and marriage equality. I voted for him because I believe that he is the best man to lead America out of these trying times, not because of his religion.
