Do You Agree that President Barack Obama Order to Close Gitmo is an Act of Tremendous Courage?

President Barack Obama unlike his predecessor is very sensitive to America image and world opinion and not stubborn like George W Bush? Do you agree?

Public Comments

  1. It was a necessity.
  2. I think it's probably a bold move, however, I think it was something he campaigned on.
  3. courage......... not at all.
  4. what!
  5. No. Where are all the terrorists going to be put?
  6. He has a great deal of support for it. The only negative opinion I have heard about it has really come from this forum. I certainly support him but I expected this from him. I am thrilled to see how seriously he is taking his agenda.
  7. Not really but I understand. It is important that we take the time to present ourselves as supporters of justice and the rule of law. What he is doing is setting up and changing our international image. This is smart more than courageous.
  8. Not of courage; Of morality, of ethics, and of humanity But not of courage. It's the cowards that did not want them on American Soil and wanted to hide them from the courts. Cowardice is the sole reason for keeping them there. Obama is no coward. Too bad we could not say the same of any Republican who supported this immoral, unethical act of cowardice.
  9. idiocy
  10. You tell me: What in the hell is courageous about that?
  11. If you want to call yourselves the good guys, you have to act like the good guys. Sometimes to your own detriment. That's not an easy thing to do.
  12. No. Signing a piece of paper is an act of tremendous courage? I think making tough choices like taking on the Taliban and Saddam Hussein when world opinion and your own countrymen, mostly liberals, are against you and calling you names is a tremendous act of courage. Thank you President Bush for taking the fight to the enemy, for ridding the planet of many terrorists who may have launched further attacks on our soil, and for protecting the homeland against the savage at the gate.
  13. No, cowardice, I hope he moves them to your neighborhood :)
  14. Hell no he is an idiot for closing it.
  15. HA HA HA You're joking, right?
  16. it is more smart than courageous
  17. No. Both President Bush and McCain made it clear they planned to close it. As Mr. Obama and you will find out soon, it is a very difficult thing to do. Already Mr. Obama has said he will try to close it in a year, but there are many things that need to be worked out before that can happen. Probably the biggest problems are what to do with all of them we have tried to get rid of but no country will take them, and what do we do with the ones that we already know we cannot let them go? The media of course do not like to talk about these real things that must be dealt with. They just want it to look like the children eating devil Bush just put them there and let them rot. What garbage!!
  18. Because it is a violation of the rights of humanity. The United States government (during Bush’s crappy time in office) claimed that they were in Afghanistan because part of their mission was to enforce human rights, yet they didn’t follow the rules regarding human rights themselves. The Bush Administration claims (keyword claims) that the captives in Gitmo do not deserve certain human rights. BUT THEY ARE STILL HUMAN AREN’T THEY?! EVERY HUMAN DESERVES HUMAN RIGHTS. What gives the U.S. government the right to decide who deserves the right to be treated like a human? Does that not make sense? Whatever happened to every man is made equal? Now about the conditions of the prisoners: They are held in small cells and lights are kept on day and night. Detainees have been rejected access to the Qu’ran for daily prayer. They are kept in isolation most of the day, are blindfolded when they are moving within the camp and they are also forbidden to talk in groups of more than three. Red Cross inspectors and released detainees have talked about the use of torture in Guantanamo including sleep deprivation, the use of so-called truth drugs, beatings and locking in confined and cold cells. The US government has claimed that they respect all religions. However, prisoners released from the camp have reported abuse of religion included flushing the Qu’ran down the toilet, defacing the Qu’ran, writing comments and remarks on the Qu’ran, tearing pages out of the Qu’ran and denying detainees a copy of the Qu’ran. Some prisoners haven’t even been charged with a crime yet! If someone deserves prison, they deserve prison. BUT... torturing them? Beating them? Locking them in cold cells? Giving them “truth drugs”?!?!?! Locking them in small, cramped and completely sealed cells? And as if torture isn’t enough, spitting on their religion?!?!?! No one deserves that! http://jtaplin.files.wordpress.com/2008/... http://www.infowars.net/pictures/news_fi... http://farm1.static.flickr.com/29/642883... Since you seem worried, just to let you know, it will not make a difference regarding America's safety and security if the prisoners are released. The only difference that will be made is less hate towards the U.S. government, isn't that a good thing? And oh yeah, in case anyone cares about humanity anymore, the government will also be doing the right thing.
  19. I am so, so proud of him for going through with this. Guantanamo Bay is a dark stain on America - the site of more human rights violations that I can even begin to think about. John Kerry said it right today - we will begin to lead by example.
  20. I see it as an act of conscience more then an act of courage. Not to appease other nations but to return to a standard of decency our nation was once known for having.
  21. Not courage... he just did the right thing... good for him!
  22. Not really, it was plain smart and the easiest way to gain instant 'street cred' from the rest of the world. Kidnapping and running concentration camps (under different names) has been shaming the US for years; claiming to be a free and fair country just made it all the more ludicrous. This has nothing to do w. image, this is real injustice and the organized debauchery of the US constitution and law, it is creating martyrs and terrorists who will take revenge on the US and its allies sooner or later. It also signals that he's not a fool or simple spokesman that is controlled from higher up in the real chain of command (as previously) and that has changed, I hope. It gives hope.
