How do you think Mitt Romney being a Mormon will afect his chance of becoming pres.?
Public Comments
- I don't think it will adversely affect his chances.
- Let's see... a lot of people don't like mormons.
- In other words, are there a large number of bigots in this country who will not vote for him simply because of his religious affiliation? Unfortunately, YES. He's much too honest to win the presidency. He'll get eaten alive in the election by the "regulars".
- I think it's going to hurt his chances. People nowadays don't want a religous man in office.
- Probably, there are many illiterates that still swear that Mormons are not Christians, they cannot get more stupid than that.
- I hate how people will base a candidates religion on whether or not they will make a good president. To me it doesn't matter but I know there are a lot of ignorant people out there.
- I am afraid so,too many bigots.I am Christian,I would love to have Mitt Romney as president, He was a excellent governor.
- So now we get to pick between a douche and a turd sandwich, but one of those two might be a mormon?
- the fundies will never support him...which is funny since he agrees with their aggenda. I personally won't vote for him because he's waaaaaay too far to the right.
- I think it will both hurt and help him depending on the state. In the end, I don't think he'll even make it past the primaries mostly because he is a mormon. It's unfortunate that people would use that as a basis for a political leader.
- It doesn't matter to me, I think he is a decent moral man, but some people are so prejudice.
- I don't think it will effect it a lot, but I believe it will sway some people's decision to vote for him. I think that if his views are simliar with the majority of those in the country and he proves that he is the right person for the job, then he will get the job.
- It doesn't matter, because the republicans have already lost the upcoming election. The only thing that matters this year is the Dem party Primaries. THanks alot GWB.
- It shouldn't have any bearing on the issue. If you asked the same question about the UK, the only caveat is that the Prime Minister is NOT a Roman Catholic. There are still people who think that us Mormons are strange people with weird beliefs and practises. This is patently untrue. There was no one stranger than William Jefferson Clinton, especially given his penchant for young interns - what religion was HE then?
- I hope that religious fervor and/or bigotry will not shape this election. Let's look at how well they will do what Presidents are supposed to do and leave their religion to themselves. D
- It may among ignorant people.
- Why don't we ask the other candidates what their religion is and then ask the same question about them. We have only ever had one President who was non-protestant and that was Kennedy. Why isn't a bigger deal being made out of the fact that Obama is Muslim? So-called "Good Christians" killed HUNDREDS of early Mormons, Muslims have killed THOUSANDS of Christians. Mormons have only ONE black mark in their history where only a handful of people were murdered (in comparison to what "good Christians" and Muslims have done), and that is the Mountain Meadows Masacre (read all about it at lds.org). Can Protestants, Catholics and Muslims say that??? I would say "NO". BTW: I'm LDS too and I'm not voting for him because I don't agree with his POLITICAL stand.
