Why did some candidates withdraw from the Michigan primary?

why did Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, and John Edwards withdraw from the Michigan Democratic Primary ballot. What kind of effect can this have on those candidates that withdrew.

  1. there are no democratic delegates in michigan for some reason, so it didnt matter for the dems.....it wont effect the outcome for the nomination.
  2. Because of the date of the piliminary voting in michigan Obama and Edwards decided that we here in michigan don't matter!! they just said "screw them" and went there merry ways!! hillary was still on there as well as a few random people i've not really heard of before. I definetly hope that people realize that this state (michigan) is in need BADLY of some help and needs to get some better people to help us out of the gutter!! people are saying that in about 10 to 15yrs... jackson michigan will be close to nothing.. almost like a ghost town!!! does that sound like a place that you want to "trow aside" or help?? needless to say hillary got my vote today!!
  3. because since michigan dems decided to have the primary early, the democratic party took all of their delegates away. so even tho hillary "won" the state, she didn't get any delegates towards the 1100 or so that she needs.
  4. Because Michigan moved their primary date before Iowa and New hampshire forcing them to move their caucas and primary. This resulted in Michigan striped of their delegates. Obama and Edwards withdrew in support of the NDC, Clinton did not.
  5. http://media.www.michigandaily.com/media/storage/paper851/news/2007/12/03/State/State.Stripped.Of.Dnc.Delegates-3128064.shtml?refsource=collegeheadlines Biden and Richardson have withdrawn from the presidential race completely.
  6. Michigan decided to hold its primary ahead of the date approved by the Democratic National Committee. So the DNC stripped Michigan of all of its delegates at the national convention. Also, Edwards, Obama, Biden and Richardson petitioned to have their names removed from the primary ballot to protest the state moving up the primary. Clinton decided to keep her name on the ballot but did not campaign here in the primary.
  7. obama, edwards and richardson took their names off the ballot to please the voters of iowa, new hampshire and south carolina as these 3 states were determined by the national dem party to be the early states, but michigan moved up its voting date without the national party approval the other dem candidates - dodd, gravel, kucinich and hillary didnt take their names off, becaue they thought this action may offend the michigan voters in the general election of course, biden, richardson and dood have since dropped out from the race, and their names dont count obama and edwards later tried to put their names back, but was refused, as it was after the deadline the national party do not count the michigan delegates, so there is no implicaiton for nomination. but a win is a win, and is good for hillary, as she won by 55%, while the voters for ALL other candidates including obama only add up 45% hillary has proven that she is most electable, has given a positive to voters in later states, esp for feb 5 super tuesday
