Why did Rudy Giuliani drop out in mid-race when he was running for NY Senator against Hillary Clinton?
He said that he needed to concentrate on is prostrate cancer treatments. Was that just an excuse due to the fact that his poll numbers were so low & he knew he didn't have a chance? Elizabeth Edwards is also getting treatments for her breast cancer; yet, she's accompanying her husband on his campaign. If Rudy is nominated for the presidency & his cancer should re-emerge, will he drop out again? And what if he actually wins the presidency & then the cancer comes back? What will Rudy do?

- Rudy was never going to win and to save face he needed to quit so he may have a chance of being nominated for the right. He will also lose against Hillary for Pres...
- Because of the scandal that hit the media at that time. Cheating on his wife.
- You've got that right. He couldn't win then & he won't win this time either. I used to think that Obama could be a good VP for Hillary, but now, after seeing & listening more to all the contenders, I'm begining to think a Clinton/Richardson ticket might be better. Keep your eyes on the ball, folks!
- Yes, it was an excuse, he knew he couldn't beat her. He won't drop out this time if he's nominated, even though he's going to have an uphill battle trying to beat her.
- He's a coward!! Most of the states have closed primaries meaning only registered members of the party can vote. With this noted, most of the members of the GOP are neocons that claim to be morally perfect. He would never win their vote because of his past stance on social issues. ex. gay marriage and abortion. This immigration comment was a ploy for general election, but it hurts him in the GOP primaries. No, he has not lost "national" frontrunner status, but he will lose it after the Iowa Caucus--he will find out like Howard Dean did in '04 that leading in the national polls before the votes are counted means nothing. By the way I predict that no matter who the nominees (GOP or DEM) are that the Democrats will win with 297 electoral college votes. They will pick up MO, OH, IA, and AR and hold the other states from 2004. Source(s): Interaction with political pundits and professors.
- Have any of you who have answered had cancer and gone through treatments? Well, neither have I but I have had some friends with it and I have a 2 year old niece with it and the treatments take it out of you. I doubt he was too scared of Hillary, but possibly of cancer and perhaps some because of his personal life at the time, but I have no doubt with the cancer that was the reason. His cancer could come back, but if it was caught early and he took time to take care of himself and the cancer, there is no reason to think it will.
- He was smeared by Hillary Clinton's campaign during his U.S. Senatorial campaign .Remember when his ex-wife criticized him during that campaign .I believe that his ex-wife was hired by HIllary Clinton to smear him .
