Are the Democrats paying back the blacks for their political loyalty by nominating Barack Obama?
Is the only reason why the Democratic establishment has been pushing Obama since Iowa because they are scared that if they don't, blacks will feel used politically, having voted by 9-1 Democrat to Republican? Are they also doing it so they can just keep the black vote, even if they know Barack might lose in November? Just to strengthen the political base? Are they also doing it to help their own reelection and their state Democratic base?

- Only idiots would believe Obama is electable in November.
- They haven't nominated him.
- Nobody in America has done more for minorities than Bill Clinton, I don't see that as a problem.
- I think it's really just pure incompetence at the national party level.
- hey randall w...i'm an idiot, then!! and in november, about 100 million of us "idiots" will watch obama take the oath of office, swearing to uphold the constitution--something boy george swore to do, but was lying, UNDER OATH.
- The one true honest answer is no, they are not paying back. Obama decided to run on his own. And they won't strengthen their political base because smart blacks now realize how the Clintons have been playing them like a fiddle. Many blacks have made it on their own, yet the same blacks who would vote for Hillary don't listen to their own people (like Bill Cosby) who tell them to speak proper English, speak out against gangs and drugs, and take pride in getting good grades and creating businesses through innovation and entrepreneurship. And when ANY black votes for a Democrat for President, they are shunning the free market in deference to hand-outs; if some of their own point this out (e.g. Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell), they get brandished "Uncle Toms". Hopefully this cycle ends soon.
- Obama will be crushed in November if he is the nominee Hillary 08 McCain 08 The Obama Crush. 41% and rising
- That does not sound logical to me. I just think many in politics are just as out of touch as the media and many Americans.
- You you are slow wrong. The old demos are backing Clinton. Obama's support is coming from people who have never voted and are coming to the polls by the thousands. Much to your prejudicial shugren Obama speaks for America against big oil. Not black America but all America. Your prejudice keeps your mind small. I urge lay aside your petty prejudices and work for America. Join us we welcome even though you hate us.
- No.
- The answer is no to every one of your racially motivated questions. People like you have been living in a lilly white world all your life; and can't understand it when someone other than a white person is appealing to the masses. Jim Crow died a long time ago, stop trying to resurrect him and let him stay dead. If there were any rationality to your racist questions Jesse Jackson would have been the nominee back in 1984. Please, please stop the hatred, God is not pleased with it. Obama 08!!!
- Well, if there's some sort of plan to throw away one election to appease the blacks.. why in the world would would they have chosen this election? There's a lame duck Republican incumbent with a horrible approval rating. So the dems have a great chance to not only capture the presidency, but build on their slim lead in congress. Why not wait until they're facing an popular incumbent, and have poor chances anyhow? Maybe the Democratic establishment has been backing Obama because they think he can *win*.
- No, of course not. The Democrats want their candidate to win. They obviously think that Obama is their man. There is no way that his nomination is a pay back. Obviously, he has impressed them. I am voting for John Sidney McCain III.
- I don't believe the party support is a payback for anything. I would think the party faithful are hoping by putting an intelligent black leader into office they could influence a culture in the young black community that is slipping into total meltdown. When you think that 70% of all black childern born today do not have a farther present. One third of black men are involved in the legal justice system and they are 700% more likley to commit murder than a white. Moreover, most of those murders are commited on other young blacks. Fifty percent of all black weamon are infected with some form of STD. We need a leader that can help turn this tragict situation around and I think the party see Barack Obama as someone that can effectivelly work these problems.
- Nope. Just ask Jessie Jackson. He ran not that long ago and lost convincingly to a guy (Dukkakis) who got trounced in the general election. It's the candidate, not the race.
- Ridiculous. The man is deserving and has ten times the experience of GWB. He hasn't done anything to be bashed on, so people are out to find flaws in everyone around him. I had hoped that our society would be more evolved than to constantly focus on the color of a man or woman's skin as the basis for their nomination or electability. If Obama were white, the entire country would be enraptured as they were with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. But because he isn't, race constantly is coming to the forefront. As if the color of his skin contains a genetic "untrustworthy" or "unAmerican" trait. Let's just forget that he was raised by his white mother and grandparents, that had a direct influence on his life, that he loves and reveres, and only pay attention to the legacy of a name given to him at birth, as if that somehow makes him a traitor. Please.
