Why is Barack Obama saying he would maintain the trade embargo against Cuba?

It was reported today that Fidel Castro had criticized Barack Obama for saying he would maintain the embargo against Cuba. Isn't that enough already? Do politicians like Obama not know when to stop with this embargo? They should realize that by maintaining the embargo, they are making the people of Cuba suffer. If there is any reason Obama is saying he would do this, I would not like that reason to be that Cuba is Communist, though I suspect that is the main reason. What's on your mind, people?

  1. Obama is trying to convince us he is not liberal. He has started his move to the center. He thinks he can fool the conservatives and that we will vote for him. He is wrong. Keeping the embargo is the right thing to do but I still won't vote for him. By the way I don't give a rats behind what Fidel Castro says. He knows and has known for a long time how to get the embargo lifted it is his choice to not do what is necessary.
  2. Embargo is two way street. One less country that America trades with means it loses money.
  3. Something to do with the all powerful exiled Cuban community in Florida who want to see Cuba suffer for ever and ever and ever or at least as long as it remains Communist? He needs their votes after all I would imagine? At least other countries trade with Cuba normally and allow their citizens to freely visit that country.
  4. Non Proliferation Treaty for cars which operate through use of Gas would be a good agreement instead of Embargo. All nations could sign.
