Why did Mitt Romney hire illegal immigrants to work in his mansion?

Why is that Mitt Romney--who is running for president and using anti-illegal immigration as a main platform--hired illegal aliens to work in his mansion? And furthermore, why did he originally support McCain's amnesty plan and now attacks McCain for his amnesty plan? This makes no sense.

He already explained this long ago. He didn't pay attention to who the contractor hired. Not a good idea if he is running for office, but we all miss minor details from time to time. There might be a branch that fell from a tree onto his front steps that someone might trip over. Does that make him negligent?
That's why I'm endorsing Mike Huckabee.
He hired a legitimate company to work for him. That company employed illegals. Romney did not ask for the employees legal status. No one would have.

First of all, just because a part of the media states that this is true doesn't mean it really is. How do WE know that they are illegal? Just because someone looks Latino doesn't mean they are illegal immigrants. They could very well be legal.

It doesn't make sense because it isn't true. Romney never supported McCain's amnesty plan nor did he try to hire illegal immigrants. (You get some work done by a company and they are the ones who hire the workers) In fact, I would say that Romney is very strong in regards to his illegal immigration stances. Romney arranged a deal with the feds back in 2006 that allowed that for the Massachusetts State Police to arrest immigrants who are in the state illegally.

This is a stupid-a$$ question. First of all, he hired a COMPANY to perform work around his house just like anyone else would with a big house and yard. The company he hired HAPPENED to be employing illegal immigrants. What are you supposed to do? If the people that end up working on your yard speak Spanish you instantly have to assume they are illegal and fire the company? Are you supposed to ask for the immigration papers of everyone who is working on your yard who doesn't speak good English? This is just ridiculous and blown out of proportion. I don't think anyone in Romney's situation would actually do what you are suggesting....it's really quite ridiculous to make a big deal out of this.
Are you serious? I live in Massachusetts. Romney DID NOT hire illegal immigrants to work for him. He hired A COMPANY to come in and do work for him and THEY hired illegal immigrants. Are you trying to suggest we start walking into business and start asking their employees for greencards? Who is supposed to police the issue? Even now he says he supports building a fence and won't really address the amnesty question. HE HAD 25 YRS TO BUILD A FENCE IN ARIZONA. I will never support McCain.
