Who would support having the presidential election a year early?

It seems the 2008 campaign is starting earlier than usual, and we are all going to be pretty tired of it by the time of the election more than a year and a half from now. And it seems that everyone is pretty sick of George Bush and would be happy to see him out of office soon. He might be ready to hang it up himself. So let's rush through a Constitutional amendment allowing us to have a presidential election in November of 2007 instead of 2008. I think we can all agree that any of the current crop of candidates, Republican or Democrat, would be an improvement. So wouldn't we all be better off with a nice short campaign, primaries this spring, conventions this summer, and election this fall, and a new President in January '08 instead of '09? Actually, Gimpalom, George Bush received less than 50% of the popular vote in 200, by anyone's reckoning. Al Gore received more votes than George Bush. This is undisputed historical fact. Look it up. George Bush only won a majority of the votes in the electoral college.

  1. Your making some pretty big assumptions on what we all could agree on. Just because you think a certain way only make you arrogant if you think we all think that way.
  2. cue the music...........ME, ME, ME, ME, ME!!!!!!!
  3. I would not. While it may be better for the nation this cycle, it would open up the possibility of the reverse later (delaying elections), which is the road to true dictatorship (Bush is not a dictator, regardless of how poorly he is performing).
  4. Nope, I would never support it. No matter who was in office.
  5. 1 year is not enought time to allow a president and his/her administration to execute any policies, let alone come up with them.
  6. we should start early because George Bush is going to kill us all
  7. You have made a serious mistake with this posting---- You have assumed that we still have a Constitutionally operational government in place !!! A great deal of the stuff you are seeing these days is so far off kelter with the Constitution--- to assume that it is still in play is a gross misjudgement of the most serious kind !! I could write you a thesis on the myriad of things that are being done at this present day that are so far amiss to the Constitution that it defies one's sense of balance about how we have come to this !! And, it has come to this with the aide and abedment of the very people who took solid oathes of office in which they promised faithfully to protect and defend the very document that they have been wittling away at from the day after their inagarations !!! So, year early , hell--- let's vote NOW !!! And, the first vote should be to SEND THE ELECTORIAL COLLEGE TO HELL IN A HAND BAG !!!!!!!
  8. I would have supported an early election in fact we could have had one while slick Willy was giving his first inaugural speech. If that doesn't sound good to you, you are a typical liberal; want everything both ways. You also seem to assume (in this case only making an ass*of*u) a number of facts not in evidence. Don't forget President Bush received more than 50% of the popular vote, a trick President Clinton couldn't pull off on his best day. No, stick with the four year cycle, it is best for the country and everyone in it. Liberals and Conservatives alike. You may have noticed as I have, many times when some government official gets a law passed if fixes one problem but in the process creates a dozen more. One more thing, give these people running some rope. They will surely hang themselves well before you have to waste any time trying to sort them out. Actually I love campaigns. It is the best time to watch bottom feeders eat their own. Good day.
  9. I would support earlier elections, but it also depends on who wins - the sooner they clean up the mess that America is in, the better. I hope the American people will start paying attention to the real issues and refuse to be fooled by media and politics. And there should be more accountability in voting. These electronic voting machines are a recipe for disaster - because they are so easy to be tempered with!
