Why are even republican analysts saying this is going to be rough election for republicans?
I am kind of curious, because normally you would expect republicans to be optimistic about their parties changes of winning lots of elections in the fall election. Why are these guys so down on their own party?

- They have no allusions...
- because we don't have a true conservitive running and alot of republicans don't want to vote for mclib.
- Dude, cuz McCain isn't really the republican, conservative most of them wanted. Why else? Ask Rush.
- I don't think they're down on their party.....I do think they know people are sick of GWB and want to take a giant step away from him so McCain can shine one his own. I'm a Democrat so this is just my opinion.
- well, mr. george w. bush has one of the worst popularity ratings ever and mr. george w. bush's war has an even worse rating. the democrats should win this one. that's why there is no good republican contender, only too-old mccain, preacher huckabee, and massachusetts failure romney
- ok ,here come all the rants from the drama queens. anyway, the truth is the Dems will probably win.the republicans know this.they"re realists.
- Because half of the population barely knows John McCain exists due to all the focus on the Democratic race, and because a lot of people hate Bush, Cheney and the Republican party as a whole at this point.
- Because we don't have a candidate that we can all unite behind. Mccain has tried to distance himself from us evangelicals-I think he has suceeded. He is weak on to many traditional values issues and compromises too much.
- They're not "down on their party", just don't want to appear overconfident!! There WILL be plenty of time to celebrate after BIG MAC WINS!!!!!!!
- The writing is on the wall. The Republican Candidate is a hotheaded crippled geezer who's only accomplisment seems to be surviving the custody ot the vietcong due reportedly to his plane being shot down.
- they think they will lose seats in the house they also expect McCain to win the general election
- Bush has made a mess of our country. We are in 2 wars, a recession, and inflation all during his 8 years in the office. McCain is not a very charismatic candidate any longer. He looks blah.... He is really a flip flopper. He doesn't know which group he wants to please and this is what's causing no one to like him.
- I think it's because George Bush's approval rating is so low. But the history books will judge him, not polls. He's kept us safe for 7 years, we haven't had another attack in this country yet. People tend to overlook this. Plus the war in Iraq is succeeding, but nobody gives him credit. Everyone just jumps on the bandwagon of "hating Bush" for no reason, or simply because all their friends hate him. I think John McCain should get Mitt Romney to run with him as VP. Romney was very popular in the primaries, and a lot of people were dissapointed when he dropped out. He's a successful business man and will be a good asset to McCain. It's funny when people are asked to name one, JUST ONE, accoplishment Obama has achieved and they are dumbfounded by the question. But yet, millions of people wanna vote for him. Shows you the intellect this country's working with...
- they are aware they have a weak candidate
- Right before the last election, I remember Sean Hannity (not to be confused with a real analyst) saying over and over again that he had a good feeling about the election, no matter what the poles said. And he was dead wrong. Here's why the analysts are saying what they are saying: 1. Many conservative voters will sit this one out in protest of McCain. 2. Obama has brought many first time voters into the picture 3. Hillary supporters will ultimately vote for Obama because of the 2-3 Supreme Court justices that will retire in the next 4 years...they will be concerned that Roe vs. Wade will be overturned if McCain is elected. 4. Recent election have seen Democrats win in traditionally Republican areas. 5. George Bush Unless conservative voters decide to get off their butt and vote for McCain in large numbers, America is about to go through a very large move to the left. Thank you George Bush.
- When we had another Bush in office, the economy sucked. Bill Clinton's theme was "It's the economy, stupid." Today, we have son-of-Bush, and the sequel is even worse than the original. The economy REALLY REALLY SUCKS. Americans want change, and they want it NOW. That's why the Repubs are in DEEP TROUBLE.
- One word - Dubya
- If this was a war between countries they would say Obama has a lot of heavy armmemment//weapons
- Because their party has been pretty much DESTROYED by the very person most of them supported and voted for in 2000 and 2004. They are the victims of their own undoing. All the evidence of Bush's hillbilly politics was there BEFORE he was appointed to the presidency the FIRST time, and they STILL reaffirmed him by voting for him the SECOND time. Really pathetic judgment on their part, and now they will pay the price by seeing their party go down the tubes and down to defeat by the biggest margin in U.S. history. It didn't have to be that way, but they created a monster who almost single handedly decimated their party. And now they have to live with the bleak results of what they did.
- Louisiana might go blue. I know I'd vote dem if I had lived down there.
- The GOP is splitting. The GOP is a coalition of three types of voters: - Religious Right - Fiscal Conservatives - Libertarians The religious right is unhappy because, despite controlling politics for the last eight years, they have been unable to FORCE many Americans to stop engaging in wicked and immoral lifestyles. The Fiscal Conservatives are unhappy because, under a Republican administration, the national debt has doubled and government spending has ballooned. The Libertarians are unhappy because personal liberty has been diminished and the foundations of democracy have been weakened. I am a die-hard Republican. And some day I hope to be able to vote for Republicans again. But first, our party has to spend some time wandering in the desert and rediscover its core values. In the meantime, the Dems are going to dominate the discussion.
