John McCain says if he had become president instead of Bush, things would be better today?
John McCain said today that he admits he believes he would have been a better president than George Bush. How does this make republicans feel?

- I'm going to bet that someone will bring obama up in this discussion if they even attempt to answer, even though the question makes no reference to him
- I'm not sure exactly what context he said this in because I haven't seen the quote, but he may be talking about military strategy. Hopefully McCain will be less concerned about winning hearts and minds. Doesn't make me feel concerned in the least. They're two different people, but they share an ideology about keeping our country safe. If McCain goes too far into it and starts sounding like one of these idiotic former presidents insulting the sitting president during wartime, then yes, I'll have a problem with it. Why do uninformed idiots keep saying we wouldn't be in Iraq if McCain were president instead of Bush? He voted for the war, like many Democrats. Your hatred of Bush, and your belief that he created everything from the Iraq war to severe weather, has turned your brains to mush. Hillary and Co. have conned you to the point where you make no sense when you try to talk about politics.
- Well I don't know if McCain said that, but I would agree to that. I'm sure we wouldn't go into Iraq. But McCain is to far to the right to be president today. McCain has move so far to the right I wouldn't trust him on any issue. His flip flopping is out of hand. I have no clue where he stands on any issues.
- Obama.
- lol thats funny be better today we be in the same boat as we are in know
- Hard to say how good a president McCain would have been. But I guess it is fair to assume that the USA would not have attacked Iraq, and islamist terrorism would be weaker than it is now.
- I think that if Mini-me had become president instead of Bush, things would be better today. Saying you are better than Bush is setting a pretty low standard!!
- Well, I doubt we'd be in a war with Iraq. I think we would have captured or killed Osama. Those are the first two things off the top of my head.
- if he said this I would have to agree with John McCain who could argue the point? I did not vote for Bush either time it was Gore and Kerry. I feel very depressed voting for any of the two top candidates. why do we have a to pick between a skunk and a sly old fox? I won't vote Democratic this time and just vote for John McCain..as he is not much..but he is all we got.
- I can't disagree with his remarks, if Bush were in Hell's Kitchen I could hear Gordon Ramsay already saying "get off it, come on you DONKEY!". lol....no I'm not going to say anything about Obama in this discussion, he would've been too young back in 2000, but Gore would've done a much better job.
- Iraq would have gone differently, I believe that. There definitely would have been less money spent, and I believe that we would have started out with more troops in the beginning instead of waiting until now to push the surge, which would have wound things down sooner. Although, we'd still be there in a peace-keeping capacity. But, as far as everything else goes, I don't think Bush did such a terrible job. (Yeah, go ahead and hate me) Unemployment stayed down. We haven't had any attacks since 9/11 (and we had quite a few before 9/11), Gas prices (which have raised the price of everything else) aren't his fault, he has no control over that. We still have our jobs and our homes, and we haven't been gouged by exorbitant taxes. Saddam is gone. EDIT: I can't blame going to Iraq on Bush. Almost everyone (Democrats and Republicans) voted for it.
- They didn't want him so i guess they don't feel anything...ever
- Hmph he said that? Yeah right. We all would be savaging under cement pillars, searching for rats to eat. With disease running ramped and no water to drink!
- Yes it would have been! anyolne is better than bush
- It makes me feel perfectly fine. I don't think Bush was a great leader (I don't think he's as bad as some people make him out to be either). At least McCain is honest about it.
- I heard Sen.McCain say this in regards to Iraq, but not to the presidency, in general. I would be interested in knowing what he would have done differently because he was one of the people who claimed we would have an easy victory in Iraq and be greeted as liberators.
