Does anyone know how Ron Paul is polling?

I simply can not believe he is at 2% and I am also not sure he is the frontrunner as the straw polls suggest. It does not make any sense to me.

  1. 2% or less
  2. 2% or less is correct. There are plenty of UN-Scientific polls that show him much higher or winning though. For example he consistently wins the post-debate text-message surveys where anyone can text a vote as often as they want for who won. This is because Paul has a very strong and vocal base who is very tech savvy. His people make themselves heard very well, but when each person is counted only once and the survey is taken scientifically, he does very poorly. Although he does slightly better with some demographics, he tops out at 2% when all voters are considered. As far as the straw polls, the situation is quite interesting the way his campaign spins it. A Straw polls is a very unscientific poll based on a canadates ability to get voters to show up. The often have to buy a ticket to vote so it really becomes a funding issues as candidates will buy tickets for their supporters. A lot fo states hold straw polls to raise money, but there is really only one that gets any national attention. This is the Iowa straw poll conducted last month. Mitt Romney won (he also spent by far the most money buying votes) and Mike Huckabee finished second (spending much less money). Giuliani and McCain chose not to spend their money at all and thus recieved a small percentage despite having a lot of support. What Ron Paul has done is spent money and got his supporters to vote in the "other" straw polls that no one else pays attention too. Their claim that they won X number of straw polls is accurate. Its just that he was probably the only candidate that spent any time or money on that straw poll. Because his supporters are the most vocal, and he focused his efforts, he was able to win in polls that the other candidates considered meaningless. Bottom line is that his claim that he won X number or straw polls is accurate, but in the one straw poll that other canadates focused on, he did not win, and straw polls aren't even scientific in the first place.
  3. It all depends on how the polls are conducted and which age groups they conduct. Ron Paul seems to be gaining ground on younger internet savvy voters who don't show up on other polls due to their lack of land-line phones (younger voters tend to have cell-phones but not land-lines). So, that's why there is a large disparity between different types of polling.
  4. we will find out at the first primary election who is right I believe paul is polling much higher than the MSM polls others believe the MSM polls and say 2 percent - I will tell you this many people know about ron paul off the internet and dont know exactly what he stands for I believe when his meetups start campaigning for him everyone will know exactly who he is and exactly what he stands for instead of the kook ron paul the media wants to portray- education of voters in this matter is essential if ron wants to do as well as he does on the net
  5. Well, I can't give you an exact estimate, but he's doing well, and as time goes by, he's gaining more popularity. Ron Paul for president.
  6. In North Dakota Paul received more donations in the second quarter than any other Republican. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/finance/states/nd/ Among all candidates, Dr. Paul is now first in total donations from military personnel and veterans. Obama and McCain were second and third in donations from military and veterans. http://phreadom.blogspot.com/2007/07/ron-paul-is-most-financially-military.html http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/ 1 Paul http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00432914/A_EMPLOYER_C00432914.html 2 Obama http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00431445/A_EMPLOYER_C00431445.html 3 McCain http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00430470/A_EMPLOYER_C00430470.html 4 Clinton http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00431569/A_EMPLOYER_C00431569.html 5 Richardson http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00431577/A_EMPLOYER_C00431577.html 6 Romney http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00431171/A_EMPLOYER_C00431171.html 7 Edwards http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00431205/A_ELECTION_C00431205.html 8 Giuliani http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00430512/A_EMPLOYER_C00430512.html Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Hunter have the most conservative voting records on immigration. http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop2.html http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop3.html http://www.betterimmigration.com/candidates/2006/prez08_gop1.html Tancredo and Ron Paul have the best voting records for reducing government spending according to the National Taxpayers Union. They were the only candidates to score 100 percent "A" Grades from 1992 to 2005. http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=97# Sportsbook.com rates both Paul and Romney at 8 to 1 odds which is approximately an 11 percent chance of becoming the next President. Mitt Romney's campaign only had 35 percent more cash than Ron Paul after subtracting debts on 06/30/2007. http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/cgi-bin/cancomsrs/?_08+P80000748 http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/cgi-bin/cancomsrs/?_08+P80003353 Paul's campaign has almost 5 times as much money to spend as Tancredo. http://herndon1.sdrdc.com/cgi-bin/cancomsrs/?_08+P80003429 Romney's contributions from individuals dropped by a third from the first quarter to the second quarter. Paul's contributions almost quadrupled from Q1 to Q2. http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/?nid=roll_08campaign Ron Paul received more than 10 times as much in donations in the last week of June as he received in the first week of April. http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q2/C00432914/A_DATE_C00432914.html Ron Paul's $2.4 million in fundraising after the second quarter placed him: 4th in total receipts to date 3rd in total current assets (ahead of former front-runner John McCain, and just $800,000 behind Mitt Romney) Ron Paul has more friends in MySpace and more subscribers in YouTube than any other Republican. Thus far, 47% of the contributions made to Ron Paul's campaign are donations of under $200 from individuals (John McCain's 17% is the second-highest percentage). http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/articles/ron-paul-small-donors-love-him.html This is a telling statistic, as it highlights the fact that most other candidates rely heavily upon donations from corporate interests and political action committees (PACs) (i.e. moneyed, influence-seeking sources who can readily afford to contribute large sums). Since Congressman Paul has always voted against special favors and privileges for anyone, special interests know they have nothing to gain by stuffing Ron Paul's campaign coffers. As one member of my local Meetup group put it on a home-made sign, "Ron Paul is thin because he won't let special interests buy him lunch." http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/sutton1.html
  7. Last poll I saw from a LEGITIMATE source he was at 3%. All this stuff about him being a top tier candidate is bogus. Technigally he "won" the dabate. But that was unscientific and all it took to get a high rating were his supporters to keep text messaging his name. He also did well in a couple of straw polls but most did't participate. In the Iowa straw poll his supporters claim he won but he cam in 5th - even his web site indicated a 5th place.
  8. The "scientific" polls sample the entire population. The vast majority of this population are people who simply are not paying much attention to the primary elections right now. Their responses are based upon name recognition. The straw polls are self-selected. Only the most informed voters tend to participate. However, it is true that voters are unabashedly paid to vote, bused in and so forth. This was especially true in the Iowa poll. I don't believe that it is true that Ron Paul is spending much money on these polls (in contrast to his opponenents). Most of the support is grassroots organized. meetup.com groups do most of the work. Voters typically pay their own way both in terms of travel expense and admission. The question is, which is most indicative of the expected primary voting results? It is certainly true that some voters will remain uninformed and yet vote. However, only 9% of eligible voters have historically participated in the primaries. This is NOT the general population. These tend to be the most informed voters. And further, Ron Paul seems to be motivating people who have been politically inactive in the past. He is motivating independents and Democrats to register as Republicans in order to vote in the primaries. Is it too much to challenge that the general population polls are not "scientific"? They do not sample the population that will likely vote. So in conclusion, yes it is probably true that Ron Paul's support is low among the general population (though 2-3% is probably too low - see the excellent article linked below). However, this is not entirely relevant to the upcoming primary elections.
  9. The last poll I saw (last week) (a scientific poll that was not self selecting) showed he had 13% support and it is growing fast. People who had never heard of him a month ago are becoming strong converts as each new convert tells more people of the ONLY candidate in the race who is for the American people and their constitution 100% and not funded by special interest groups, foreign lobby groups and corporations, the ONLY candidate, seriously in the race who voted against the patriot act, the Iraq war and Military commissions act and is for a reduction in the role and scope of Government, the ONLY candidate to be for a reduction in wasteful federal spending, and abolishing income tax. (America coped really well for over 100 years without the income tax and does NOT need it now) More converts are created. It's not Just Ron Paul, but it's his message. I Mean, seriously? How can anyone in America be against Peace, Freedom, Liberty, Equality under the law, The Constitution and the core, central, pure American values? That is Ron Paul's Message Ron Paul is 100% Pro American NOT 100% Pro-neocon new world order goon. People say it will take a miracle for him to win, So millions of Americans are rolling up their sleeves, stepping up, and constructing that miracle, one voter at a time.

  11. This is the latest published {Sept. 4th} straw poll results: http://www.ronpaul2008.com/straw-poll-results/ It shows 23 straw polls nation wide. Some polls may be only open to registered Republican voters, some may be open to all candidates. There are about 20 total Presidential candidates from both parties. 11 Republican & 9 Democrat & some from other parties. Out of 23 straw polls Ron Paul scored a 26.62%. I take that to mean 26.62% of either the 11 Republican candidates, or 26.62% of Republican & Democrat, or 26.62% of Repubs, Demos, Undecided, and other,,,,take your pick!!! I arrived @ this figure by adding the results of all 23 polls listed and dividing by 23. ******************************************************************** This site shows 11 Republican candidates and 9 Democratic candidates, and conviently omits all 3rd party candidates who do draw votes @ some polls. http://www.ontheissues.org/default.htm ****************************************************************** This site is called "Real Clear Politics". It is "Clearly" biased against Ron Paul!!! It covers some old polls taken in June & July. However, it looks like a New York City only election as they publisize the New York only candidates and make no mention of Ron Paul. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_giuliani_clinton_bloomberg-344.html Thanks for the question. ***************************************************
