Mini poll: Ron Paul a solid balanced candidate for America?
He clearly shows he is a TRUE conservative, unlike the rest of the GOP candidates by opposing unnecessary "policing" of other parts of the world. This idea is very attractive to most liberals. But, as the constitution would like it to be, he is also for a very limited federal government. (Very much unlike today's federal government.) I predict there will be chaos for the lack of media attention given to poor Dr. Paul and his solid base.

- You bet. Just not electable.
- Your right... R.P. 2008! WingMan- What Republican is more electable? 70% of the national pop. wants out of Iraq! Who is the only Republican who wants out? Ron Paul! Who raised as much money as Hillary and Obama in the 4th quarter? Ron Paul! Who has a 200 ft. blimp flying up and down the East Coast? Ron Paul! Who was only 3 percent behind the 3rd place candidate in NH and 1 percent behind Rudy? Ron Paul! Who garnered more than double the support of Rudy in Iowa? Ron Paul!! How is this guy unelectable? UNITool- He is not a isolationist. Isolationist are people who sit in Washinton and think they can boss the world from there. Ron Paul advocates what was the foreign policy of our nation until the early 20th century. The best years (most prosperous) were before we started this antagonistic policy. Also he does NOT want to return to the gold standard! He wants our money to be backed by gold! That means that our money would be worth something in foreign countries! Right now there are countries that will not even accept the U.S. dollar because itS is so devalued... The current U.S. dollar is only worth 4 CENTS of what a 1913 U.S. dollar was worth! John W- The rest of the Republican party is out of step with the U.S. ! 70% of the population want us out of Iraq! Ron Paul is the only candidate that wants us out! You are uninformed!
- He's a naiive idealist. you cant just pull out of iraq. iran will take over the region if we do. then oil would be at 200 barrel.
- " This idea is very attractive to liberals" Yet another reason he is unfit to lead the GOP
- He's a fry short of a happy meal.
- I think Ron Paul is the right man to correct todays messed up economy..he got my vote
- I believe he is the most "unbalanced" candidate. As a candidate you have to decide what you can actually accomplish in today's political climate and go with that. His proposals are to radical to ever occur and his determined advocacy is admirable but not electable.
- Ron Paul is well intentioned, but very misguided. We as a nation cannot rely on isolationist policies to keep us safe and prosperous. I've watched all the debates, and heard him speak in person at the Iowa Straw Poll - he's delusional if he believes that eliminating the central bank and returning to the gold standard would be anything but disastrous.
- Ron Paul is a great candidate and I have high hopes that he will make an impressive showing in South Carolina and California. He also enjoys the most support from the military. The irony is that the major media outlets are trying to forget about this while at the same time saying that they support the troops. It's always nice to see when words speak louder than actions. The only time a good man doesn't stand a chance is when those who don't believe in him refuse to support him because they think he doesn't stand a chance. Sometimes doing the right thing in the face of defeat can bring victory. It's sad that Americans no longer believe in acting on conviction.
- The man is also a racist too.
- I think Ron Paul has a very keen sense of America's economic problems and probably provides the only rational way out of the economic crisis America is facing. Unfortunately his neo-conservative policies may not be helpful to America's poor and needy. That dude, he's like my granddad. I imagine sitting on his knee and him bouncing me up and telling me stories. "Hey Granddad Ronnie" I'd say, "Tell me another story Granddad Ronnie, tell me how to save America's dying economy granddad Ronnie".
- a great vp for pat buchcanon
- I don't want a "true" conservative. Just like I don't want a "true" liberal. I would prefer some one that has flexibility in their thinking. Ron Paul is the least flexible candidate of any of them. Once you have your mind set change becomes impossible.
- He is out of step with the public (last among the republican candidates) and with his own party. What did Romney accuse him of? -- getting his rhetoric from Iran's Ahmadinejad.
- I think people are scared his ideas are too radical, but folks don't realize the radical changes needed in this country, the people no longer have control of the government, its the opposite way around, and that goes against the constitution, and introduces what appears to be a shadow of fascism in the face of freedom. Paul's approach is the best for our childrens future, we can not be war mongers, our childrens lives are at stake.
- I agree with some of what he says and totally respect him and his ideas. I don't agree with being a "non player" in matters of other countries and I don't agree with his ideas about taxes since the country is in a recession and eliminating some taxes (putting "more money in our pockets") is not going to do anything to help the poor, unemployed or lower middle class who are struggling to survive. Here in Michigan, we have the highest number of unemployed in the country. Maybe if it were your state, you'd feel differently about cutting programs to help these people. JUSTIN (and anyone else who is confused) If you are unemployed, you do not benefit from tax cuts. You have to be paying taxes in order to benefit. Think about it. Further more, less tax money means less programs for such people. Here in Michigan, over 20,000 people were laid off from high paying jobs at GM and other automotive companies. They typically don't have transferable skills and so just can't go and get another job that pays as well. Especially when available jobs just aren't there!!! (I can't believe I have to explain this...)
- I really like how Dr. Paul has always stuck to his convictions, and speaks his mind. He never changes his opinions to win a crowd over. However, what he preaches is such a drastic change that nobody is taking him seriously. Dear lord, us following the constitution the way our founding fathers intended? That would NEVER work (dripping sarcasm here)Also, his views don't allow him to fit neatly into a red or blue box. The reason he is running as a republican is because you can't get your voice heard as an independent. Another answerer on here had mentioned that even if Paul was elected, he still only has veto power, and can't really do much else to harbor the changes he wants. Most of our policies are up to congress, so we might be better off if he stays in the Senate where he can really do something.
- Yes, you have a point. But have you given any thought to moving on because you know as well as I do that it will come down to a few people, so don't let your vote go to waste, so to speak. Just a suggestion, give that vote to someone who has more of a chance to win, perhaps you can find some things you may like about one of the front-runners. I know, hey are complicated bu research them. Good luck :)
- I agree with Johnny U. Though he does have alot of good ideas he seems too niave for the President of the United States. If this wasn't so I would vote for him in a heart beat, so would about 13 million other people.
- I think he is, and any imbalance that people perceive can be taken care of by the Congress one elects. Even I don't agree 100% with him, but how is that going to happen with anyone right? He's far more "balanced" than most running, Obama's pretty balanced, but doesn't talk about certain issues. Mitt Romney appears balanced (but personally I feel he's untrustworthy from his past actions, and amount of money he comes from). The people that see no problems with the candidates we have picked in the past, are so used to having crappy cards dealt to them, they don't even know what a straight flush is. No royal flush, because no one is perfect, but just take a look at his writings, what he intends, why he chooses the things he does. He's one of the only candidates I can understand logically, and is predictable and trustworthy. People forget, we aren't nominating a king, or a dictator. Our country needs a nudge in the right direction, to set an example of others serving us, to not bend to corporations, to not create or involve themselves in scandals. An example of the types of people that should be running for office, not part of the old majority of fat cats that continue to bag and tag us. The guy drinks microwavable soup for lunch, he doesn't even get to campaign that much because he feels it's duty to do the job he was elected for in Congress. Can you imagine that kind of work ethic at a higher office? Everyone can't find dirt on him (maybe dust bunnies), so they rehash and misconstrue old scandals, like the racist news letters, which don't even relate to him in anyway, if you read any of his writings. There is no video or audio of him saying any of these things, and he has taken the high road by denouncing such writings vigorously. When people bring up the racist items, they do so, to confuse the general public, and to sidetrack the issues we need to really talk about. There won't be an America as you know it, if our dollar tanks, and more people are out of jobs, with very little value left in their savings or credit. Not a single candidate is really talking about the economy, other than in glittering generalities. They hope to obfuscate the issue, because they don't want to take responsibility to try and fix it. If Ron fails, we fail. If the others fail, it's because they didn't even try, and the result is the same. So in answer to your question, He's a solid candidate, and even balanced if I know your definition of balanced, as compared to most of the rest running. Lack of media attention might be a good thing. I tend to see the media pick and fawn over preselected candidates and attack the rest with negative words, questions, and not easily letting people decide for themselves.
- CHANDIEP, I am confused. You say Ron Paul's proposed Tax cuts which would put more money back in the middle and lower classes pockets would not help them be able to survive??? That confuses the crap out of me. I don't know about you , but when I have more money in my bank account or more cash in my wallet, that allows me to pay my bills easier and easier to buy gasoline....... Explain how more money in your pocket will not help you!
- Ron Paul is solid...yes ....unbalanced....yes I have researched him and will NOT be voting for him.
- No.
- He is the hope of the people and has our best interest at heart, no matter what the issues. The others, beside Gravel and Kucinich & Keyes), are very rich and answer to special interests. The main problem is the way the media is deceiving the public by understating his victories. The so-called big shots running the news want the war & oil business to thrive.
