If Barack Obama is elected President, can we finally stop playing the race card?

I understand that racism will always exist. Although, I think that if the people of the United States are willing to elect a person of color to be President, we can finally say that "we are over the hump". If racism were embedded and/or ingrained, we wouldn't have a person of color on the verge of winning a Persidential nomination.

  1. Have you seen the racist filth on YA by the Christian conservatives? I think we have a LONG way to go before we the end of racism in this country. It's embarassing.
  2. It's too embedded.
  3. I just wish he was a better candidate..and no I'm not voting for him. I like Harold Ford or Jesse Jackson, Jr. a LOT better!
  4. me myself dont care who wins as long as they for the nation and not race-but if he wins-got the strange feeling this race mess has only started-im going to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and watch
  5. We cannot stop playing the race card in foreseeable future Too many people stand to lose too much
  6. Wrong answer buddy. Maybe the day I die but not before then. If I have anything to do with it the legacy of racism will be with my family for many more generations. The government is never going to be able to legislate and enforce who I like or love and who I don't. Ya got that! Oh and BTW I will do everthing in my power to make sure that no Democrat ever holds the title of President of The United States of America again. It will be a sad day for individual rights in this country if it ever does happen.
  7. My feelings on this it would BE A START.
  8. of course (if you can be President you can be anything) but.. don't hold your breath McCain will beat him
  9. no, it is too ingrained into people's heads
  10. Why should I? You played with your whip for over 200 years. We've only sat at the card table for less than 40 years so far. When you stop dealing me the card, I'll stop playing it.
  11. I hope we can, i dont understand all the racial issues, i dont care if u hate somebody, but u shouldnt hate someone just because they are a different race, religion, or gender thatn u
  12. No the race card will always be there. It is too easy to use and no one is willing to argue against it. To do so would be to commit "PC" suicide.
  13. that would be great
  14. As far as I'M concerned, we are already over the hump. Prof. Shelby Steele talked about this in his book "The Content of Our Character." He referred to the famous quotation by Rev. King the night before he was assassinated in which King said that he has "been to the mountaintop and seen the promised land." Prof. Steele says that black Americans are over that mountaintop, on the downward slope into the promised land. We are a nation with: the 14th Amendment, the Civil Rights Act of '64, and the Fair Housing Act of '68. There is widespread obedience with these laws, and remedies for when some people do not obey. We are a nation in which more and more racial minorities are getting elected in predominantly white jurisdictions. It is, of course, unrealistic to expect 100% obedience with the laws I mentioned, but in so many different ways, we are quite certainly "over the hump."
  15. al sharpton and jessie jackson will not allow the race card go by the wayside, because they will lose all of their political power
  16. If Obama does get elected the division of racism will become greater in the US. Both Hellery and Obama are bad news waiting to happen. I am glad that I don't live there.
  17. Oh...if only it were that simple. Not to sound morbid, but I think 1-2 generations may have to die off before things become more even.
  18. Wanda Sykes said on the Jay Leno show "If Obama wins, black people are going to have to come up with another excuse! I mean, you can't blame the man if you ARE the man!"
  19. Obama is one of the biggest racists running for office. If he were to get elected, there would be more racism then there ever was including back in the 40s and 50s.
