How come McCain supporters do not want Mitt Romney for his VP?
Conservative leader Paul Weyrich – who endorsed Mitt Romney’s presidential bid – has signed on to an open letter from more than two dozen movement activists to John McCain warning him not to select the former Massachusetts governor as his VP pick if he expects their support. "If Governor Romney is on your ticket, many social conservative voters will consider their values repudiated by the Republican Party and either stay away from the polls this November or only vote down the ticket,” they write in a message posted online by a political action committee called “Government is Not God.”

- Christian conservatives already don't like McCain, and I believe the fear is that adding a Mormon to the ticket will really sink that ship.
- Well, I believe he would be a great addition to the ticket because he has economic experience.
- i never even heard of paul weyrich before. I am a republican and obviously support mccain over obama/hillary, but i would have no problems with him picking romney. i think it would help him a lot with hardcore conservatives and people concerned about his economic views.
- Because of the fear of the "Christians" of hate.
- The old man may be in a nursing home in a year and Mitt would run the illegals out because he is a Republican and McCain is a Democrat.
- What the heck is wrong with Mormons? I want Romeny on the ticket. He is strongest where McCain is weakest; economic matters. Who could possibly fear a Mormon yet not fear a Trinity United Church religion of racism and Anti-Amreicanism member? What can a Mormon possibly do to hurt America? *
- Hold on. A former Romney supporter does NOT want McCain to pick his man as VP? Am I reading this correctly? I'm sorry but what kind of logic is Weyrich using? One would think that with the state of the economy being the number one issue on voters' minds McCain supporters would want Romney, a man perceived by fiscal conservatives as being strong on the economy (though his record as MA governor may say otherwise). As for the social conservative (literalist Christian) vote, they do not think of McCain as their preferred choice anyways. Still, they will still flock to the polls for the GOP nominee like the sheep that they are simply to keep a Democrat out of the White House. EDIT: Oh...in regards to some complaints about the criticism of Romney's Mormon background, perhaps they should look into the history of the Church of LDS, not to mention the racist passages in the Book of Mormon.
