Why is John McCain considered to be a liberal?

Why do Conservatives dislike John McCain? Why do some people think he is a liberal?

Public Comments

  1. He actually if you look at his voting record plays the middle ground which could be good in getting both parties moving in the same direction.
  2. Rush said so.
  3. Look up: McCain-Lieberman McCain-Feingold McCain-Kennedy The Gang of 14 McCain tried to be John Kerry's VP running mate McCain voted against Bush's tax cuts TWICE. McCain vote FOR amnesty for illegals This man is a phony.
  4. in the mind of the far right if you are not one of them you are a Liberal, in other words 80% of Americans are Liberals The far left are no better thinking that 80% of us are Neo-cons. McCain has the ability to work to find common ground with those on the other side. That apparently makes him Liberal. Bush has failed to do that and look where it has gotten us.
  5. McCain is far from liberal. He supports a long term military presence in Iraq for God's sake. The problem that conservatives have with him has more to do with the "swift boat" job Karl Rove did on him in '04' than anything else. McCain is a political moderate, moderately conservative that is. I think the "far-right" in America has a real problem with him because he came out against torture and because of his position on immigration; which is really no surprise since he is the senator of a border state and thus has lots of Hispanic constituents.
  6. Because the neo-cons are fascists. Anyone to the left of Darth Cheney is a liberal. McCain is not a liberal. He's a right of center moderate. He's a fiscal conservative, which is why he WISELY voted against Bush tax cuts for the rich. I'm glad he's winning. He's the least frightful of the Republican candidates. I am voting democratic, but at least I can say that McCain would be a damn sight better than the balls of slime that are currently occupying the White House. FYI: His immigration stance has less to do with the immigrants than with the business interests who want cheap labor.
  7. I don't get it; just because McCain didn't stand behind dumb decisions that Bush made does not make him whatever label they want to put on him that week. At least John McCain served his country with honor, the people bashing him like Rush and Satan Coulter can keep running with that hypocracy they've used as a cornerstone of their politics; people aren't really hearing them anymore.
  8. Rush said so....
