Hello everyone. For those who watched, listened, and understood Barak Obama's speech on race that was given March 18th, 2008, can you please sum up his speech and give your opinion about his speech. Thanks =) By the way, I am asking for you to do this so we can discuss opinions, and see other points of views.
Public Comments
- It wasn't his speech or his ideas. It all comes from a speech writer, like all the politicians do.
- Its ok for me to attended a racist church because my grandma was a racist. and he did not address the real issue of the america hatred Was not a great speech it was a man trying to cover his butt
- big ole justification for reverend wright's hate speech. racist bs.
- He didn't resign from the church, he didn't denounce and reject Rev. Wright, and he didn't apologize to the American people.
- Here's the gist of the speech..."Please forget that I have lied for days about hearing my pastor of 20 years make outrageous statements; and if you don't I'll say you're not mature enough to focus on the "real" issues of this race"....smoke and mirrors, smoke and mirrors... Apparently he thinks we're not entitled to wonder about his past/present and future choices based, in part, on his ability to choose who he keeps company with knowing most of us keep company with like minded others.
- I saw it as a politician trying to walk the fence. He was trying not to offend the black people while also trying not to offend the white people who already was on his side. In my opinion he failed. He compares the hate messages spoken in public of wrights to to his white grandmothers comments spoken in private to him. He showed disrespect for her in doing that. he said that race is a subject that needs to be talked about, but when any white person says anything, they are called racists. He spoke very well as he always does, but again it was with out substance, because of him trying to straddle a fence. He said that he didn't agree with the comments that wright made, but then went on to defend what and why he said it. Although he never said which comments in particular that he found offensive. And I think that the speech is to little to late. He should have said or done something about it way before it became politically necessary. That is my point of view.
