Senator McCain says he despises war. Do you believe him?

He's argued for more troops to be sent to Iraq repeatedly since as far back as 2004. Straight from the CFR website here: http://www.cfr.org/bios/662/john_mccain.html#12 And says that the use of military force against Iran can not be taken off the table. Again from his CFR bio here: http://www.cfr.org/bios/662/john_mccain.html#15 So, what do you think? Does a man who advocates for more of our troops to be sent to an already ongoing war for 4 years and a man who threatens a country with mlitary force that hasn't threatened us really hate war? ***about Iran*** I'm well aware of the fact that Iran is pursuing nuclear capabilities from what I read. What exactly does that have to do with Senator McCain's "I despise war" comment? You'd think that if someone despises war as he claims he does, he'd be advocating for peaceful solutions such as establishing a working diplomatic relationship, ending sanctions, increasing trade, etc. But I guess that's too logical and the proper way to have decent relations with foreign nations is to threaten them instead, huh?

Public Comments

  1. nobody hates war more than those who participated in it.
  2. I despise taxes, but I still pay them.
  3. NO. If you hate war, then you stop it. You don't continue it. He is a liar.
  4. As someone who was tortured, crippled and nearly burned alive (Forrestall Incident, and volunteered to fly the mission that he was captured on as soon as he was released from the hospital), I think he is the only Presidential candidate who can honestly say that, since he is the only one of them who was directly affected by it (Hillary was hanging out with Bill in England and protesting the Vietnam War, and B.O. was a child at the time).
  5. I think he has more credibility than any other candidate running... after all he was a POW for years, so he does know the risks. What do you suggest,, just pulling out? Neither Obama or Clinton will do that now, and they have stated as much. So.. what is your point?
  6. Apple pie and motherhood. There are some things a politician must say, or he won't get any votes.
  7. Considering he spent like 3 years locked in a cage being tortured due to war, I'm pretty sure he really does hate war.
  8. I do, he was tortured for 5 years, I think he is aware of what war does. Unfortunately we have nutjobs out there that want to kill our way of life.....
  9. I believe he hates war more than anyone. He has the right to hate it more than any candidate.
  10. i am sure he does despise war . i also think he is more suitable to protect this country from terror . he has more experience then any other candidate . i would rather the troops have all the help they need , then maybe fewer would die . just my opinion .
  11. Everyone despises war. He supported sending more troops to Iraq so we can finish the job sucessfully. No good leader would ever take possible military action off the table against a nation that is openly hostile to us and our allies. If you think Iran isn't a threat to us or our allies you just aren't paying attention. The President of Iran gave a speech last week braggin about 3,000 new centrifuges that they are putting into service as we speak. Once they are up and running Iran could potentially have enough weapons grade plutonium to build a nuclear weapon within one year. Why are you on their side?
  12. Im sure hes against war but since we're already there lets send enough troops to get the job done and get out, we would have lost fewer troops in the long run if we had gone in better equipped..."you shouldnt go bear hunting carrying a stick".
  13. McCain never saw a war he didn't like. He wishes we were still fighting in Vietnam.
  14. If he despises war, then why is he so gung-hoo over Iraq, making the statement that we would be there 100 years if necessary??
  15. It is truly a testament to your liberal brainwashing that you even need to ask that question. Hillary Clinton voted to support the war (repeatedly--despite her position while running for higher office...) and yet no one asks her if she truly hates war... No one wants war. Everyone hates the loss of life and destructon. The bad guys in the world do bad things KNOWING that most peace-loving folks would rather look the other way than do something to stop them. Some peace-loving folks also understand that force is occasionally a necessary last resort.
  16. If your in a war you finish it. And you don't rule out anything because you never no what the future may bring. That's wisdom.
  17. I believe him like I believe i can fly.
  18. Yes,I certainly do.
  19. Anyone who was ever in a war is despises war . Believe me I know . McCain was in a war and was in a POW hell for over 5 years . You can believe him !!!!!!!!!!
  20. There more than one way to fight a war. The military option against sovereign countries has proven to be an absolute failure.
  21. No I don't! I don't see how being shot down and becoming a prisoner of war and tortured makes you an expert strategist on a complex issue like how to conduct a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. A war on terror is fought using guerilla tactics learned and put to use while Senator McCain was a prisoner. There are thousands of Viet Nam war veterans who fought in combat and didn't have the experience of being a pow. Does that limit them? Was John Kerry less a hero after killing the enemy during missions that without arguement was one of the most dangerous combat missions in Viet Nam? He got trashed by the right wing of the Republican right wing just as Senator John McCain was trashed when he went up against George W. Bush. So, to me and many, many, others Senator John McCain has no particular edge because he was a prisoner of war. I do respect Senator John McCain for his decision to go to combat and fight for what he believed was the honor of the United States. That's more than George W. Bush or Dick Cheney ever did. Thanks
  22. If you know John McCain you know he is telling the truth, and there is a job to finish not only to stabalize Iraq but to secure our own freedom. Many just do not understand this, and would have us withdraw all of our troops now, would be inconsistent with the consequences we would endure with Iran. ~
  23. All of us who have been to war, despise it. However, there are times when you must fight and losing is not an option at anytime.
