What happened in the Kenyan Election to cause such violence?

I know there was some sort of election fraud, but that's happened in other countries before, and never caused violence like this that I've ever seen -- or at least heard of. Any reasonable answer on this would be appreciated.

1. There was huge election rigging, and yes, that's happened before, even here, very recently, but I think what makes Kenya so different and so violent is the fact that the whole country is divided, not only by candidate, but by tribe, and that's a very foreign concept to us. Similar to different sects of the same relegion always wanting to kill each other. Another aspect is that this election had Kenya's highest voter turn out. It was one that people were passionate about.
2. It's just ETHNIC CLEANSING... the bogus election was just an excuse to riot and burn the place down while taking out the garbage. Kenya has gone back to it's old TRIBAL WAYS... and when tribes rule the place.. you have conflict... it's really just that simple
3. The liberals lost another one. Does that tell you anything?
