Election time is coming up, will gas prices go down like they have in the past? Why are they so high?

In the past, whenever election time began, prices for gasoline went down. However, they shot right back up after election season. Is the war to blame? Is it really just as simple as supply and demand?

  1. Gas prices are being driven by speculators in the futures market. The war has nothing to do with it.
  2. i don't think the gas prices will go down just because of the election, and i do believe that the gas prices went up because of the war. our natural resources are being depleted because of abuse as well as the war. it's not just the price of gas that's gone up it's also the cost of living and food.
  3. All i know is that gas prices are decided by the world market...
  4. It is just as simple as supply and demand. You take a product make x amount of that product and 10 people want it so you make enough for 12 figuring you might get a couple more sales. Instead 20 people want the product now the product has more value so the 12 pieces you have made go up in price so that you can buy more material and make more. This is what happened to oil. We have countries that have oil wells that produce a certain amount of oil, a few years ago the USA was the primary purchaser of that oil and the oil was cheap because not that many people wanted it now we have more countries wanting the oil, many more countries, and the oil producing countries are still pumping the same amount as always so the product, now in greater, demand is more expensive. The war, while not about oil, is disruptive and the region where the war is taking place is where the lion's share of the oil producing countries are so it too has an effect on the price. I don't know if the price will come down between now and the election but I do know that it traditionally goes higher at this time of the year as people drive more for family outings and vacations. It almost always goes down after labor day when all the children go back to school which is also right before elections.
  5. Yep, you better believe it. BTW............gas prices are up because we are paying back the national debt. Sad but true.
  6. chavez is the only one to blame
