Why are conservatives suddenly rallying around John Sidney McCain III?
Sure, he's militaristic, but so was Mao, Castro, and Stalin. Once you get past his hawkishness, John Sidney McCain III is so moderate he barely qualifies as a Republican. John Sidney McCain III is not a religous conservative Remember that "Agents of intolerance" quip? John Sidney McCain III is soft on immigration. John Sidney McCain III professes to be somewhat ignorant of economic issues. What has John Sidney McCain III said or done in the last few months to change so many conservative's minds about him? Whatever happened to him being a RINO? Have conservatives become so blinded with hate of the left that they'll vote for anyone with an (R) after his name? WinOne4TheGipper - I'm not trying to tell you what to think. If you don't think my question deserves an answer, why did you answer it? Baccheus - You seem to think you know an awful lot about me. You don't. So let's see... I've been branded a liberal AND a Religious Con AND a neo-con. You people are silly. I should also add that voting for a republican for the sole reason of preventing a Dem win is exactly what got Bush re-elected. It's a crappy reason, IMO. Venom - I have nothing against McCain, but my gut tell me he's every bit as duplicitous as Clinton. I like Obama but he doesn't have my vote yet. I asked my question primarily to guage how many people would let party affiliiation be thier overriding concern, and the results are obvious. Maybe that was too complicated for you to understand. Poor thing. Venom, once again you aren't considering all the options, you're just too smug to realize it.
Public Comments
- I'm not. I have decided that that backstabbing liberal media darling will never get my vote. He is a liberal, just like the other two liberal candidates, Hussein Obama, and Diane Clinton. I will not vote for anyone who refuses to fix our borders. I will not vote for for someone who refuses to stand up to the liberals and liberal media, and works with the most liberal members of congress to pass anti American, anti Conservative bills. Never. Enough is enough.
- Both parties always rally around their nominee. Not everyone literally, but as a general group they will. Remember too, that contrary to public perception, there are tons of conservatives who have supported John McCain all along (or else he would not be leading). Other candidates have been prefered by certain sub-groups within the Republican party, but to think that he somehow became the (apparent) Republican nominee without support from conservatives is ridiculous. You don't win states like South Carolina and Flordia in a Republican primary without solid support from most conservatives. Sure he got support from moderates, but it's not as if he didn't get any votes from conservatives. Democrats will come together too, and will generally support whomever comes out on top between Clinton and Obama.
- I'm holding my nose. Unfortunately, he is all we got. He is a dog that should be kept on a very short leash.
- well they're only rallying around him because that's their only choice!! there are no true conservatives running!! i mean seriously, a hybrid democrat/republican is better than a liberal. its a lesser-of-two-evils situation.
- not rallying around him, he's the only choice. I would have voted for romney
- Who is rallying? Not fiscal conservative libertarians such as myself.
- Romney's been out, the huckster can't win, conservatives don't like Ron Paul. Process of elimination.
- I think they've realized it's him or one of the most liberal men in congress! If you had to like everything about a candidate, most of us would support nobody.
- A third party run is in order. That would be the conservative party, not Nader.
- Mr. Mc Cain is winning fair and square and the Republican Party is rallying behind him because he is the best option to the party.
- What is the choice for republicans? 2 identical surrender monkies, Socialists like Mao, castro, and stalin. Soft on immigration, there idea of solving the immigration problem is to rename it amnesty. Totally ignorant on the economy, raising taxes is not good for the economy, ask the patron saint of democrates JFK. and as for conservative christians, were do the dems stack up? Your question seems blatently obvious.
- As an Independent, I have no choice but to vote for him. To me, it's the lesser of two evils. I don't view him as a real conservative. I see him as a conservative democrat. I can't see myself voting for hiliary or obama. God I wish we had a strong third candidate.
- Because he is 'the conservative' when you compare him to Obama and Clinton...
- When we don't rally around him, we're closed minded. When we rally around him, we're putting politics ahead of principle. Will you please tell us what you think we have to do while I check and see if my giveadamnometer is busted?
- Your end of the Republican party is just a weird little niche. A coalition of religious creeps with no morals and sinister oilmen with no conscience were able to put there little man in office for two terms by the promise of tax cuts -- which really just means our kids pay our bills -- and very devious tactics. The Reagan republicans are returning to re-take control of the party. Unfortunately too many of them resent McCain for being such a weak leader while our kids, our economy, our state rights, our personal rights and our democratic system were so badly abused. You dislike him because he's not hateful, selfish and creepy as you; I dislike him because he's too cowardly to tell people like you to shut up. Together we shall elect Obama. At least tax-and-spend is much much better than borrow-and-spend.
- How dare u use his middle name...lol...spending 5 yrs in the hanoi hilton is almost good enough in itself for me...he's a great american...
- Actually, if you replaced "suddenly" with "sullenly", it would be more accurate. For better or worse (and I'm leaning towards worse), for some illogical reason, he's been selected as the standard-bearer for the Republican party in this Presidential election. What's left to do? Support him, yes, but I do so without much enthusiasm. My enthusiasm is aimed more towards preventing a Democrat victory than in having McCain win. A McCain presidency is just an uncomfortable side effect of stopping the disease of leftism from infecting the White House.
- not all cons. are religious first off, i could name about 100 people that are cons and not religous right now off the top of my head, second of all i know the more i find out about the mans life and his families service to this country , his grandfather , his father , himself and 3 of his children all served this country with honor , to me that is a great thing and should be rewarded , how many of your candidates have that service record in their family ?
- I voted for Romney, but McCain was my 2nd choice. True, there's questions about his stance on immigration, but he heard the American people loud and clear. "Protect the Border!" Now, what is he going to do after that?........well, we'll see. The bottom line is that he will protect our country, which is the #1 priority of the President and the Federal government........I know that hurts for some Dems to hear. Show me where in the Constitution, does it say UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE........yeah.......it doesn't. Conservatives MUST rally behind McCain, because there is just too much on the line.
- hmmmm..... So let me understand this....you're against McCain...but I assume you are for Hillary or Obama...but you complain about McCain....on those issues above...and yet willing to support Obama or Hillary who are just as worst. hmmm...contradictory of sorts but even if you were not in support of Obama or Hillary...you imply that you want tough immigration, tough religious values, strong economics... so logic says...you pick the lesser of two evils....and Obama and Hillary ain't it.... So where does that leave you? ...McCain. I know what I said was too much for you... actually you were quite easy...
- you're comparing McCain to mao, castro, and stalin? you've got some serious issues, my ignorant little liberal friend.
