When the Bush campaign used push polling to suggest McCain had an illegitimate black child, was that unfair?

Bush the first is claiming the current conservative criticisms of John McCain are unfair. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080218/pl_nm/usa_politics_mccain_dc Back in 2000 McCain was leading Bush the second in South Carolina and on his way to the GOP presidential nomination. Anonymous opponents used "push polling" to suggest that McCain's Bangladeshi born [adopted] daughter was his own, illegitimate black child. http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/03/21/the_anatomy_of_a_smear_campaign/ Speculation is that Bush's pet mudslinger, Karl Rove was behind this push polling. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Rove#2000_George_W._Bush_presidential_campaign_and_the_sale_of_Karl_Rove_.26_Co. Where was Bush the first with his claims of unfair criticisms of John McCain back in 2000?

  1. I dont support Mcain in the least, but I do think it is unfair to bring his personal life up. It really isnt related to the kind of president hed be, I dont think.
  2. Nothing Rove does surprises me. He is the real President behind this administration.
  3. Heck yes I think it was unfair! Not just unfair, but dirty politics. I am not a McCain supporter, and will not vote for him, but I remember this "dirty trick" when it happened. It was a terrible, cynical ploy!
  4. I imagine he didn't want to say anything that interfered with his son's efforts to become president. Or am I missing something?
  5. No. Because it was actually the Muslim Obama that was behind it. Islamic-fascists like Obama, have attacked McCain for years. Obama or Hillary----- who knows? Kerry wasn't smart enough. James Carville might have.
  6. Yes, it was unfair. But nothing the Bushies do is fair. They are also total racists. I about fell over though when Bushie Jr. came out and stated Bill Clinton is not a racist. I think those were the only true words spoken from him in all his years in office.
  7. Some people are just plain desperate and obviously Bush and his people were at the time. Look where it got him...A lot of grey hair and a bad reputation. Maybe all the other canidates can take a lesson.
  8. If McCain was anything but Republican, he would have stood a very good chance in being elected.
  9. Doesn't surprise me the least. Hell nothing surprises me anymore in politics. I like McCain, I think he is the best we have at keeping our economy a float, the war, and even global warming. His ideas on Global warming may not be as well as the democrats but at least he's willing to curve our carbon emissions and lead us into a greener life. Now Dana I'm not saying that GW is man-made..lol.. but I will agree with any pres that will get us away from pollution and foreign oil. Obama is to green and Hillary well she just scares the hell outta me. So I'm voting for McCain he's only a republican by name, and seems to be someone in the middle which is what this country needs. No hard left or hard right someone in the middle that can work with the house full of democrats. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  10. Hahaha! That is sooo funny. It amazes me how thick politicians skin is and how out of touch with reality they are. There's that, I was in shock that Romney endorsed McCain after their little media cat-fight and of course, there were a few mentions on the Jon Stewart show of Republican hypocrisy (ie-'flip-flopping'). I'll be sure to mention this at the next family gathering. They're all pro-Republican (no matter what) so I'm sure they'll enjoy this.
