Why is John McCain called "too liberal"?

One of John McCain's only liberal stances is on torture. I can understand why McCain personally disagrees with torture because he was tortured continuously for five years when he was a POW in Vietnam and saw the inhumanity of it. I personally think that terrorist suspects should be tortured, but that is just me. John McCain at least sticks to his guns and votes for everything he says he believes in and is not trying to win a popularity contest, like Hillary Clinton, who by the way is way more liberal than John McCain, despite what many are saying- Hillary Clinton is pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-troop withdrawal from Iraq, and pro-choice.

Public Comments

  1. He wants to give amnesty to illegals and let them rape our system even more
  2. It's Hillary ploy. They have been trying to paint her as a conservative for sometime now. If they can get the public to buy into McCain being a liberal it will only help her..
  3. I don't even understand his stance on torture being considered "liberal". Does that mean that to be considered conservative one has to be PRO-torture? Is that what "conservative" has come to mean in this country? The likes of Augusto Pinochet being their new icon? McCain is NOT a "liberal". Personally, I think he's called "liberal" solely because he doesn't hate on them thar Messicans as much as the "conservatives" would want him to. I already know that "racist" has come to be synonomous with "conservative" in the US.
  4. Wow, he was in the military. So was John Murtha, what the hell is your point??? -he is pro gun control -he is pro illegal alien amnesty -he voted against tax cuts -he is pro-choice every major piece of legislation he ever signed was cosponsored with a democrat. Sticks to his guns? He changes his positions more then any person in congress, often in just a matter of days. Here is the proof about that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioy90nF2anI Also, you can check out therealmccain.com He is basically a pro-war democrat do you want more?
  5. I think it's because he favors fiscal responsibility. Plus the fact that he cosponsored two major bills with a Democrat.
  6. John McCain is NOT Liberal. He is a Republican and if he was a Liberal, he would be a Democrat.
  7. "Hanoi" John McCain is no war hero. He has fabricated this image. Read the links below. My fellow Vietnam Vets have known about this for years. http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/ http://www.usvetdsp.com/mcianhro.htm
  8. hillary clinton actually calls herself liberal.... mccain calls himself conservative but is inching over to the moderate side. i dont mind, being a democrat myself.
  9. I don't think he's too liberal. I think he's just liberal enough to make a great Republican. If all Republicans were like McCain... the US might finally join the 21st century.
  10. I would say that McCain has a few other liberal views besides just the ones you describe. But in general, I agree with you. McCain has gotten an average 82.3% score from the American Conservative Union during his 25 years in Congress. But for some reason, many Republicans consider him to be inadequately conservative. And they get more ridiculous when they talk as if being inadequately conservative is the same thing as being liberal.
  11. John is a Centrist and sometimes he gets led astray,McCain-Feingols,McCain-Kennedy are good examples. The Alternative ( Clinton or Obama ) is social and economic chaos,a Socialist trainwreck.
  12. This isn't the only thing we disagree with and McCain doesn't stick by his guns as you say. The fact of the matter is that McCain is flopped on more issues than anyone only he calls it "reaching across the isle". 1. The border. First McCain supports AMNESTY (with Ted Kennedy). He called the rest racist against Mexicans for not supporting it. Now he says he "hears the people" and he wants to focus on securing the border. 2. He voted AGAINST the Bush tax cuts in 2001 & 2003. Now he says he wants to make the tax cuts permenant. Why would you make something permenant you don't agree with? 3. McCain in the San Francisco Chronicle (8/20/99) said "I would not support the repeal of Roe versus Wade." Then he says in the next breath "I want to repeal Roe versus Wade". 4. Ethanol. McCain in 2003 says "Ethanol does nothing to reduce fuel consumption, nothing to increase our energy independence and nothing to improve air quality." Now he says: "I support ethanol and I think it's vital". 5. Pro gay marriage 2005; Anti gay marriage in 2006. 6. 12/2006 McCain himself said if the surge did not work one option would be "to withdraw from the borders". *I want to know if having strong borders is so important to McCain, then why AFTER 25 YEARS, isn't his border fence in Arizona complete? Either he can't get anything done or he doesn't really want to. I'm supporting Mitt Romney!
  13. He's really not "too" anything. He just supports whatever views he agrees with, and does not blindly do what his party tell him to do. He really isn't a liberal, conservative, or moderate, which is why he is willing to work with all of them in order to actually get things done.
