Are the Republicans "settling" on John McCain....????
That is - he is the most acceptable of the remaining candidates but not the most exciting? Or that the other candidates have so much baggage that McCain seems to be the most electable? Is this like 1996 when we knew we were going to lose to Bill Clinton so we nominated Bob Dole because he was an American Hero, he had paid his dues to the party and it was "his turn"? Will McCain appeal to enough independents and conservative Democrats to make up for all the Republican votes he will lose because of his positions on immigration, taxes, campaign finance, etc.? In short - is McCain our 2008 "sacrificial lamb"?

- No, the republicans are just coming to their senses, McCain should have been their candidate in 2000.
- This Conservative is not supporting McCain if he ends up getting the nod for the Republicans. I would rather have Hillary mess up the country so bad, that people will wake up and empty the chambers of the US Congress of all Democrats. Maybe next time the Republicans will learn from past mistakes, they are sent to D.C. to do the work of the people.
- McCain appearing to be the nomination of the Republican party is like an oxymoron. what in the heck is going on?
- McCain is the best that the Repubs have to offer.
- the extreme right wing is trying to put pressure on him to leave his moderate, common sense, middle ground. they better be careful they don't torpedo their best candidate in the process.
- Not me I will not vote for another person who does not share my beliefs or political philosophy.
- I think there is a conspiracy by the Dems for McCain to be a spoil sport. I thought that when he ran against Bush it was the same thing. The First round I lived in Az. He was not liked by the repubs the Dems loved him. I believe He is going to get the nomination, Then The Dems drag out the Dirt and Hillary will rule the roost. Read some of the McCain for prez blogs. they are knocking Rush, Ann Coulter, Big time conservatives, just hatefull they sound like the dems. Romney's people are factual about what they say about McCain. Dole was drab but he was a good guy.
- Given that Mitt Romney is the worst possible choice I have a feeling he's going to be the republican nominee. If God really hates us then Romney will be the next president. The 'Christians' keep reminding us that we have to be punished for our 'sins', and who's more equipt to be the rod in the mitt of God than 'Mitt'? If Americans were smart they would actually come to grips with the fact that the current leadership of the Republican party is composed of yahoos, ditto-heads, cold war retreads, reactionaries, war mongers, incompetents, Jesus freaks, semi-fascisti no-nothings, anti science dunderheads, and a sorry @ssed collection of fools, tools, goofballs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, mugs, pugs and thugs...and those are the good guys! McCain, at least could be viewed as the best of the worst, but if elected the democrats will ignore him and the neo-cons of the GOP will desert him. Basically he'll be playing to an empty house. I sort'a wish that people will leave that nice old man alone and stop encouraging him to make a fool out of himself. If Americans were smart they would vote for either Obama or Clinton...a couple of smart and knowlegable folks that actually know that the american wage-earner exists and that a well off middle class is the key to everyones success. I'm afraid that won't happen...the GOP's Ministry of Propaganda, the right wing talk shows and FOX Network are telling the faithful that McCain is a...gasp....liberal, and that Obama and Clinton are low down commies. That leaves good 'ol Mitt, just achin' to leap into the big chair and complete America's tranition from a republic to a corporate state where the worker bees will be sheared like sheep..pardon the mixed metaphor! I have spoken!
