Who would Romney choose for his VP nominee?
Suppose Governor Mitt Romney gets the GOP Presidential nomination. Who do you think he will choose for VP? 1) A man or a woman? 2) From which state? 3) From Bush cabinet, Congress or another governor? (See same questions for McCain and Huckabee) (See same questions for Clinton, Obama and Edwards)
Public Comments
- Fred Thompson
- 1)man 2)oklahoma 3)former congressmen whoever the republican candidate is needs to pick J.C. Watts to shake things up. the democrat candidate needs to pick a hispanic
- Romeo would choose Huckleberry Hound Huckleberry Hound would choose Mittens Romeo McCain would choose Mittens Romeo Clinton would choose Obama Obama would choose Clinton Edwards would choose Lurch (Kerry)
- Gov. Romney would need to balance the ticket and draw in voters from other areas. the South would be a good choice, esp. if he's running against Hillary. I'm thinking Jeb Bush wouldn't be acceptable as being to closely associated with his older brother (which is completely false, btw). Huckabee would be out -- evangelical Christians aren't very tolerant of Mormons and that can't be accepted in the Presidency. Who is governor of Texas? Gov. S of California isn't eligible to run -- wasn't born an American. None of the other western states are big enough to matter a lot, given that Romney should run strongly in many of them anyway. Who might be available in the Mid-west? I do not see Condi Rice as having a built-in constituency, and she'd sure be an interesting choice against Hillary.
- Condi Rice would be the best choice, after that I would say Ron Paul, Dr. Pauls supports would be a valuable asset.
- I don't see him picking any of the other current or past Republican presidential candidates. The GOP ticket needs to present a unified front next fall. I can't imagine how John McCain or Mike Huckabee could possibly be credible standing next to Mitt Romney saying "We're on the same side, here." There are plenty of Republican governors and members of Congress from which to choose: Governors Blunt of Missouri, Sanford of South Carolina, and Palin of Alaska come to mind, as well as Senator DeMint of South Carolina.
- I think the WORST choice for Romney's VP would be Huckabee. Even though that would make all of the Baptists happy it would make a lot of other people uncomfortable because the ticket would appear too religion-oriented. Gulliani is not even an option, as his views are almost the opposite of Romney's. If Romney and McCain didn't appear to be such sworn enemies McCain would be the best VP choice to unify the Republicans. Ron Paul might be a good choice, since he hasn't been as anti-Romney as the other candidates and like Romney is strong on the economy. I do think Condi Rice might be a good choice due to her valuable foreign policy experience, and she might make a lot of minorities and women feel they have a viable choice besides Hillary or Obama to represent them. The only baggage Rice would bring is that Romney says he wants to depart from Bush's broken policies and Rice is the biggest part of Bush's team. Just for fun, someone should convince the Democratic nominee to pick Harry Reid his/her running mate, so either way people have to vote for a Mormon in the presidency and it becomes a moot point (as it should be--why should Romney have to defend his being a member of the 4th largest church in the U.S., or of any other church?).
