What is wrong with Mitt Romney being a Mormon?
Everyone is making such a big deal about Mitt Romney being mormon when its just a religion. I mean we have freedom of religion. Not being mormon, I look up to them for holding strong to their tough values. If we are critizing any candidate, why not Obama, he doesn't even salute the flag. Could you imagine a president not saluting a flag

- If you actually took the time to study the Mormons, then you would know why.
- nothing
- I agree but I my self am Mormon but I have been looking at Romney for his political stance on issues more so than his religion. Even if he becomes president, what is everyone so afraid of? It's not like the President is the sole legislator in the the United States.
- Nothing is wrong about him being a Morman. My reservations have to do with his incredible flexibility of position and his globalist position on issues. I may end up voting for him in November if he makes it that far, if he is the lesser of two evils. However, I'm voting for Ron Paul in the primary.
- All religions should be respected.
- The people who make a big fuss over Mitts religion are called...."Mormon-o-phobes". I could care less what his religion is... as long as he isnt a liberal, democrat, muslim, communist, socialist, or total moron.... or a combination of a few of the above mentioned choices.... He has my vote! GO MITT IN 08'!
- You'd almost have to be a moron to be a Mormon. All religions have bizzare beliefs (man walked on water, parted a sea, etc.), but Mormans add an extra touch -- gold tablets only to have been seen and interpreted by one man. Religion is NOT logical. It's bad enough to believe in any religion, but to fall for one beyond bizzare does not say much about the mind of the believer. Other than that, you are an idiot. Where did you come up with this Obama not saluting the flag bit? Oh wait! Never mind, you are just another believer of what you have been told. A mind is a terrible thing to waste
- I guess him being a Moron isn't so bad if he wasn't running for the office of the President. But then again he wouldn't be the first Moron to be president!
- Mormon's suck!! Source: Baptists, catholics,Muslims,Lutherans,Jews,Pentecostals,Moonies!! Please note this is extreme Sarcasm
- I don't like Romney because he was a corrupt governor. The state was flooded with illegals and he did nothing about it and let this forced health insurance thing pass. He also was rarely ever here, instead on the road promoting himself as a presidential candidate and insulting our state which cost us the chance of another Republican governor, so now we are stuck with Deval Patrick a Black supremacist nutcase. And if I was a Mormon I would not vote for him since he isn't really a good Mormon anyways and should be excommunicated, plus he makes Mormons look bad by his crappy "service" in Massachusetts
- Better a Mormon than a Muslim. Romney has strong family values. Ronald Reagan's wife Nancy had an astronomer read Ronnie's chart and tried to run the country and make decisions based on the stars. I think they did a great job in spite of her beliefs.
- There are also a few tenets of that religion that kind of make you shake your head, which I suppose is fine in that any religion must be taken on faith rather than science, but things like extra books to the Bible written on golden pages seen only by Joseph Smith, their leader, which then disappeared, the wearing of an undergarment which is protective in nature, these aren't part of our everyday religions. Obama did put his hand over his heart at the pledge, that story came from him not doing that when the anthem was played, and you aren't required to do that then. Obama is spending millions to be president where the people are very into overt displays of patriotism, it would have been suicidal for him to have deliberately done that in front of thousand of cameras. It didn't happen, and I'm very far from a fan of Obamas.
- It depends on what his religion calls for him to believe. If it says every other religion is inferior and you need to kill all the others and receive 70 virgins, then I would say it would make a difference.
- I have known several Mormons and visited Salt Lake City numerous times. Mormons have some funny beliefs when compared to other Christians, but I certainly don't mean to put them down for that. Mormons sure seem to actually believe what they say they believe as opposed to Democrats who say they believe one thing while actively opposing those stated beliefs. Mormons are industrious, hard working, and moral people, probably more so than any other group in the country. While I would not go to church with Romney, I have no problem with him in a leadership role in this country. I don't care what kind of funny underclothes he wears.
- There shall be no religious litmus test for public office, though we do not always adhere to this basic tenet of our Founders. The fact that Romney is Mormon should not concern the voters. Where he stands on the issues is of utmost importance and should be the only factor in this campaign.
- Well, to be honest, there is nothing wrong with Mitt Romney being a Mormon. Sure, as you say "it is just a religion. We have freedom of religion." It isn't as simple as you say it is. See, I was brought up as a Catholic, and married a man who was brought up as an Episcopalian. Both religions have very strong beliefs in the the understanding of the scriptures in the holy bible. Neither one of these religions strays from the truth of the bible, nor does it create another book to make up their own rules to guide their people (believers) of their religion, or control their lives in such a way that it no longer follows the bible. There is "good" in the readings and books of the bible that I find easy to live by, when I meditate and seek God. This is "religion" as I see it, as an American citizen, born and raised as an American. The Mormon religion is extremely radical in a sense that their beliefs is strict, rigid, and different. Their Pastors can have more than one wife, and in some cases their second or third wife is their younger sisters in law. They father children from all their wives and get this one...the wives all live together in a huge mansion with their children...the all accept that their way of life is "normal." As I look at our next President of the United States of America, I am making the choices that will affect my life, my future, my children's future, and why if affects our lives and goals. And to tell you the truth, I have a choice, thank goodness, thank God for that, because I choose to vote for someone who believes in what I believe in, and not what another person makes me believe in. Good luck to you!
- Hawaiian I dont even know where to begin with how wrong you are about mormons. You said: The Mormon religion is extremely radical in a sense that their beliefs is strict, rigid, and different. Their Pastors can have more than one wife, and in some cases their second or third wife is their younger sisters in law. They father children from all their wives and get this one...the wives all live together in a huge mansion with their children...the all accept that their way of life is "normal." We dont have pastors, we have Bishops of the various wards. They are called to be Bishops out of the congregation. Any worthy male can be called to be a Bishop from the congregation. They are called for about 5 years or until they move and leave the boudaries of that congregation. Mormons are only allowed to have 1 wife. Anyone found practicing polygamy will be excommunicated and definetly not become a bishop. The positions of the church all come from the members and they are unpaid. The bishops, teachers, stake presidents, etc will all have their own secular jobs on top of their church callings. You people should really know what you are talking about if you are going to tell people what mormons believe.
