The smear campaign was started last year with the right wing leaning Insight Magazine which claims it got the smear from the Clinton campaign Barack Obama is a practicing Christian and has been a member of the same church for the past 20 years Edited to add: while some people try to portray the church as racist since it is predominantly attended by blacks, this is not the case. People of all shades, white, black, hispanic also attend the church. 6. Not everyone. It seems that so often the people who are most afraid, aren't from NY. 9/11 has really become an excuse for bigotry. I ran on 9/11 to get my kids from school as the towers fell. I ran back to my house with the ash and debris filling my lungs. I waited 7 hours to see my husband, who works blocks from the site, return home. I had charred pages of books and office papers in my yard. I awoke, in my bed, to the smokey stench of death, for months. My next door neighbor lost his life and left a widow and two small children. My local firehouse lost 11 of their 23 firefighters. I saw tears in the eyes of my friends and neighbors everyday as they walked down the street trying to carry on with their lives. So why is it that you don't see that it is hate that leads to this? Why can't you imagine how strongly someone could feel about huge cultural differences when you can't even be civil to those whose views are so close to your own by comparison? Let me tell you- the kind of hate you are spreading is more similar than not to the hate that you fear. I am afraid of terrorists and I am afraid of you. It is my hope that the kind of fear that you have embraced and the bigotry and hatred that fills your heart and divides our country will begin to fade when people hear the call to a higher purpose by a man like Barack Obama. 10. No. He had some exposure to Islam, but he currently attends a Christian church in Chicago. Of course the church is 100% black, does not allow white people to attend, swears allegience to Africa, and honored Louis Farrakhan (the most radical racist in America today) with a lifetime achievement award. Considering that the church is openly racist, and honors a racist man who is currently the acting head of the NOI (Nation of Islam) perhaps he is not as far removed from Islam as his attending a "Christian" church might lead you to believe. Elizabeth...Explain why my friend in Chicago was shunned by the church, and all but asked not to return. Explain why you do not see a video put forth which was recorded INSIDE the church. I have direct information from a white man who tried to attend and you have a video that may just be an Obama supporter claiming to attend that church. We have no idea who she is.
