Ok Fellow people cheering 4 Mitt Romney. I want to know why YOU want him as president.?

I would like to know where he stands on many issues. I already know he's mormon, and I know he flipped opinions on abortion (For a good reason), but I want to know what he thinks about about Iraq, taxes, ect. Pretend I'm a guy that doesn't know who to vote for and you want to make me vote for mitt romney. No, I'm just a woman that wants to know where Romney stands in many issues.

Public Comments

  1. The guy's a rain maker . . . hello anyone . . . it's the economy stupid (your not stupid -I'm borrowing Bill's former slogan).
  2. Let me guess you are a Ron Paul groupie?
  3. Trust me, him being a Mormon won't make a difference. I know several Mormons and that's just it: it's their religion. They act a little differently, but they always seem to be better off. So I think that his Mormonism is a good thing. And, unlike popular rumor, he flipped once on abortion, not several times, so he's not a flip-flopper. His opinion on Iraq is that we can't pull out or we're inviting terrorists over. He says we need to work on Iraq and leave them when they're stable. His tax opinion is a good one too. He'll charge a set percentage on everyone so no matter how rich you are, you're paying the same percentage as your neighbor. He is also the strictest candidate on illegal immigration. That's all I can think of.
  4. Where Romney stands on the issues? That all depends on who he's talking to at the time. He's the shadiest of the shady Listen to Kerri, she's from MA
  5. Because he has experience running things (his large company, the Olympics, and the state of Massachusetts) and a couple of those he had to turn around and whip into shape and he did it. He is smart and has good market based instincts. I would love to see someone who is used to getting the waste out of big organizations take on the federal government. And he's committed to not raising taxes so hopefully we can stop this insane spending spree the government is on and not wreck the country for our children. He also believes that judges he picks should be strict constructionists, so we won't have to worry about the Constitution being changed to fit the whims of the unelected judges. The Congress is supposed to make the laws.
  6. He's just plain amazing. I would elaborate, but i don't follow politics that much.
  7. I havent made my decision completely yet. But I look at the other front runners and well what do you have. McCain - horrible on the immigration issue which i believe is very important. , Huckabee - bad on immigration issue and wants to make abortion a top issue, Hillary - wants to take away the current income tax cuts which saved me over 1300 in taxes last year and saved anyone who pays taxes money. Her championed issue during Bills admin and one now is the universal healthcare which we cant afford. Obama - also wants to take away tax cuts, maybe even more than Hillary does. Romney - well yea he did change his position on abortion, but abortion is not a big issue to me. so while I dont like that he flipflopped on it its not a big issue and if he had to flip flop on something at least its not an issue that effects everyone. But on other policies I think he is solid. So im waiting for the primaries to play out but so far he is the best 'electable' candidate in my opinion.
  8. DON'T!!!! I'm from Massachusetts (the state he used to be govener of), and he's awful. He cut all kinds of funding for education, and did everything he could to try and out law gay marraige (it is legal here). Unless you like the way things have been going under Bush, DO NOT ELECT HIM PRESIDENT!!!
  9. oh, oh...I got this one!! #1, I LOVE ROMNEY. Here is why: *has experience in both the private sector (business) and as a politician. *has his own $$. Does not have to depend on "back room deals" like so many others. *has a GREAT family. Good kids. He is the ONLY republican running that has only had ONE WIFE! *is a problem solver. He was asked to intervene in the SLC 2002 Olympics. They were millions in the hole. He came in and turned it around. We made a profit because of him. *willing and has worked with both political parties I guess that is everything off the top of my head. I trust him. And I have never said that about a politician before.
  10. First of all, I think the would be the best to manage the economy hands down. Second, he has the conservative principles I look for in a candidate such as low taxes, tough on immigration, and he has character. He has been married to his wife for thirty something years and his kids still love him and all participate on his campaign. You can't say that for Giuliani (3rd wife and daughter is estranged, plus I've heard he can be nasty), McCain is on his 2nd or 3rd wife, and just seems too old and isn't inspiring. Huckabee I think is weak on the things that matter to me such as the economy, plus he seems to push his religion too much for my taste. Thompson is done. I think Romney looks presidential, speaks well, and is super intelligent...he has an MBA/JD from Harvard and knows how to get things done. I also think he knows when to rely on other's advice to help him make critical decisions and won't be an iron fisted ruler who will bulldog through issues like some candidates might. I do really like how Romney isn't a career politician and how successful he was with the private sector and turning around the Olympics, etc.
  11. Well, although he's definitely not my first choice for president, and although I see him as a little "fairweather" on some issues, I do think he would do well considering the situation we are in. First, the reason the Bush administration is so ineffective is not because of Bush himself. Granted, the man isn't the sharpest crayon in the box, but he's not the source of all presidential failure either. The problem came when he awarded cabinet positions as "kickbacks" for influential individuals who had supported him, regardless of merit or qualifications. Romney, as a highly successful CEO and venture capitalist, really knows how to scour a resume and pick the best man for the job. With a solid VP and a solid cabinet, even a monkey (i.e. Bush) could run the Oval Office. Romney, however, is intellectually smart and prudently opportunistic. Secondly, as far as his stances are concerned, here are a few key items: He supports stem cell research itself, but has recently been against abortion except in the case of rape or harm to the mother's life. With the new endeavors to create stem cells from live skin cells, you will see him support this movement wholeheartedly. He wants to cut taxes. In Massachusetts, he erased a $1+ billion budget deficit and actually ran a surplus, without raising taxes. He rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from financial woes and made them successful. Rather than mixing the government's hands into industries by virtue of stipends and subsidies, he prefers to draft legislation to cut some key costs in the healthcare and auto industries, two of the biggest weights on our economy. Automakers and insurance companies will be able to cut key costs, and pass some of the savings onto consumers, generating larger margins and pumping more discretionary income into the economy. Romney is less pro-Iraq than McCain. He wants to withdraw a certain level of troops immediately, but see out the current objectives of establishing a secure and stable Iraqi government, specifically around Baghdad. Most of Iraq is currently under the control of the new Iraqi government, but there remains unrest in and around Baghdad. Romney is worried that if we pick up camp and leave, the resistance forces will take back Baghdad and regain control, thus making the entire operation a multi-billion-dollar waste and showing terrorists that they can win. He supports additional security measures within the country, but has not voiced support for wiretapping. He is for gay rights, but not for gay marriage. He is for a civil union allowing some tax advantages for monogamous gay couples as co-household heads. This same civil union would apply to other long-term roommates as well (i.e. a grown child living with one parent, or two siblings/friends living together) and is designed to promote not homosexuality per se, but responsible long-term co-responsibility for household fiscal affairs. Due to the sensitivity of the subject, however, he rarely speaks up about it anymore. His actions and comments in MA more clearly illustrate this point. He supports compulsory healthcare, but doesn't believe it should be provided by the government but by private companies. There would be government aid for those who qualified, but no free rides. Checks and balances, as well as copays, would safeguard the integrity of the system. He is a capitalist of the largest proportions, meaning that he supports the free market and competitive industries. He is reluctant to enforce costly regulations where public demand and the free market would otherwise ensure fair play. As a religious person, he wants to protect the rights of religions, but would also be opposed to the removal of religious symbolism and tradition in government. He's not about to remove "In God We Trust" from our money, or to modify the Pledge of Allegiance. In all, he's a pretty good guy, but he is also somewhat radical. He's for big business, which means the little guy can sometimes be overlooked. All in all though, big business is good for fostering a healthy economy. You also have to be careful about his ties to the hierarchy of the LDS Church, since he's had several private meetings with Church leadership, and a few of his extended family members have served as Mormon Apostles. I don't think this is a heavy concern, but one to keep in the back of your mind. In this particular case, it's not simply a matter of his beliefs (since beliefs should be mostly irrelevant), but rather the consideration of a possible conflict of interest with a large, financially influential global organization.
  12. Great turn-around artist, and the way the economy appears to be going, we're going to need his skills for the biggest turn-around in history. No. 1 political issue is ALWAYS the economy (as it should be), and I vote for a guy who has signed the front of a paycheck, not just the back of one. What have Hillary, Obama, McCain ever run (all Senators, no executive positions, never ran their own businesses)? Huckabee is a great preacher, and should just go back to that. Giuliani is a mess.
  13. HEY KERI. Romney was a Republican governor in a DEMOCRAT controlled House and Senate. "WHO" cut education????? That's right...the Damocrats!!!!
  14. I am supporting Romney because of he says what he means and means what he says. Yes, people will say he changed his mind on abortion, ok, he changed his mind after getting more information. Mormon? Harry Reid is Mormon too. Two people can not be more different in their views of what this country needs to do. He is, in my opinion the most solid of the candidates. He has a proven track record. (Good point about MA, being the democrats who cut funding!) To really get to know what he is about, spend some time looking at his website. I personally want a president who is commited to his family, one that cheats on his/her family will cheat on the American public and can't be trusted. I want a president who will stand up and do what they believe is right, even if it isn't popular. And I don't want a president who cries when she's tired or having a bad day. My two cents. But don't take these things from me, or anyone else, go to the source and do some research. Good luck!
  15. I really don't care where or if the President goes to church. I care how he'll run the country. He's changed opinions once on some serious issues. That's not flip flopping. Flip flopping is going back and forth, back and forth. Why I like Romney.... He has made an extremely successful career of going into large organizations that had lots of problems and were near bankruptcy, and turning them around. THIS is how he's made billions of dollars. Government is the biggest business of all. Ours is near bankruptcy. Without some change we're going to have 1929 style depression all over again. All you hear from most candidates is how they're going to raise taxes (bad for the economy) and provide more services (bad for the economic situation on hand). This, to me, is THE issue for 2008. We've got problems that we need to deal with. If we don't take care of this, everything else will be trivial. .....and Hillary says "America can't afford all of my ideas". She's absolutely right. America can't afford Hillary....or Obama...or Edwards. When you look at it in this light, I don't think any candidate comes close to Romney. He's on of the best in America at this. I say, let him fix the country. He clearly has experience fixing things. .....and everyone says they want change.
