Barack Obama?
I cannot quite grasp why any fellow American's would want to appoint a man named "Barack Obama" to office after what our Country has endured these past 8 years due to Muslims. I know he "claims" to be a Christian and never affiliated with the Muslim faith, but the name alone leaves me with no choice but to be skeptical. Does this mean I am being racist? I never considered myself racist, I have a bi-racial daughter, but I can't help but to think this way. Am I wrong or are my worries legitimate? What’s your thoughts on this? Wow so much hostility. Well I thought it important to add that I am NOT basing my vote on a name alone. I just thought I'd see if there was anyone out there who had the same worries I have. It is "just" a name. Maybe I am being judgmental but at least I'm honest. More then I can say for most!

- how about a cultist named "Mitt" Romney what the heck is that??? youre worries are not legitimate at all he didnt pick his name, the father that ran off wne he was 2 years old picked the name (after his own father)
- I totally agree with you.
- I know it is silly.. but even tho I really like him as a man and politician.. the name kind of bothers me too. As Americans we are used to American sounding names being our leaders... Maybe it is a good thing in the world community to have a president with that name.. but it does seem a bit odd. Oh well, we shall see. And no, I don't think it make you racist.. you did not say you didn't want him as president because he is black.. you are just sceptical and probably more honest than most.
- If you are basing you decision based on someones name, you are using the wrong criteria. Look past the name, check out his record and his stances on issues. Think about what we need for the next President, and ask yourself who would be best fit.
- I would have no problem with a muslim being a president. I couldnt care less about religion. I wouldnt vote for him because I dont like his stance on the issues. He is the most liberal Senator in Congress.
- Yes you are definitely being racist and judgmental. Why don't you base your opinions on the candidates on what their stances are on important issues rather than basing your opinions on a name or gossip. It scares me that people actually don't research the candidates and then decided who they think is best to run this country. Too many people base their vote on Media Lies, Racism, Gender, etc. instead of what the important issues are. All Muslims are not terrorist either! You shouldn't generalize people based on their religion, gender or race!
- If you think that Barak Obama sounds too Muslim for you, then does that make Allabama an Islamic state?
- You are misguided in your judgment. Honorable Barack Hussein Obama will make a good president, Allah willing. He is very strong in his faith and dedication.
- So you would be the same person that wouldn't hire someone for a job based on their name, even thought they are more qualified for the job than Bob Jones. Come on a name doesn't hurt anyone
- You are judging a person solely on the name is parents bestowed upon him. My middle name is lee but I assure you I have no plans to restart the Confederacy and secede from the union. I promise. John Wayne's real name was "Marion", but I don't think to many people thought he was girl. Its just a name get over it.
- yes you're wrong and yes you're racist/prejudice. muslim doesn't mean terrorist. you need to actually educate yourself on the candidate, not what their name is. and "we" haven't endured anything due to muslims, we've had t endure more due to president bush than muslims. he's the one who lied to us, he's the one who has destroyed our economy, and he's the one who has turned you into a bigot. you know how they say "you cant judge a book by its cover"? well, that's what you're doing. you're deciding who to vote for based on a name that was given to the candidate. you need to learn about issues and where each candidate stands on them in order to not abuse your right to vote.
- If you buy into all the things this government and the mainstream media are telling you about Muslims, then your fear is the result of believing what you are repeatedly told. I don't think it is a legitimate fear because most people know nothing about the Muslim religion and still have the audacity to fear them. I will say that there are radical Muslims that do crazy things, BUT it is equally as bad as the number of radical Christians. The fact is that Barack Obama is an American. Whether you like it or not. You are not in any position yourself to "claim" to know if Obama is really not a Christian. If you make decisions on whether to like a person or not based on their name, you need to take a look at yourself and analyze why you fear something so trivial. Although I respect Barack Obama, because he identifies problems we have in our country, I plan to vote for Ron Paul because he is the BEST CANDIDATE. He is the ONLY candidate that has a solution for many of our problems. His record proves him to be truthful. He's been voting consistently for over 25yrs and always bases his vote on whether it is constitutional or not. RonPaul2008.com
- "Does this mean I am being racist? I never considered myself racist, I have a bi-racial daughter, but I can't help but to think this way." You've asked the question honestly, and honestly, yes, you are being unfair. (Technically Muslims are a religion, so it isn't technically racist.) Muslim Americans had nothing to do with 9/11 and resoundingly and publically criticized Middle eastern Muslims for supporting. To hate all Muslims is the equivilant of hating your catholic neighbor for the terrorist actions of the catholic members of the Irish Republican Army. "Am I wrong or are my worries legitimate?" He is a member of the church of Christ. He was given an unfortunate name (for today's politics) 40+ years ago before any of this went down. It is like if someone named their child "Adolf" in 1915. Just crap timing. That is it.
