Is this election just about entertaining people, or can we get a real leader out of this election?
This election has felt more about entertaining the masses through the media than informing Americans about the position our candidates have on the issues. What do you think? I personally would like to see something along the following: 1. All candidates before the primaries have a set amount of money each for campaining before the primaries. All equal. 2. Given equal air time by the national media (required) 3. True discussion of the real issues and where they each stand. After the primaries are over - then let the remaining candidates do their own fund raising and gather endorsements, etc. Any other ideas on changing the way things are done?

- yes I agree the hype and media have driven most of this election being about the issues into the ground, so much is made of gossip and celebrity endorsements etc, that the REAL issues are SADLY lost!
- I agree. At least I know who I "Don't" want now. (Mad Dog McCain)
- You have a point, but I only think that's because this election is unlike any election we have ever seen before. For the first chance, at least on the Democratic side we have the first time in history that a woman or black male will receive the nomination. Plus, once again on the Democratic side, their positions don't vary that much on the issues. They have way more in common than they disagree on and people will soon grow tired if the media beat those points to death. Now, that said, the media does spend a fair amount of time focusing on the issues, but that all depends on what station you watch and what time you watch it. For instance, if you want real political discussion while watching the news, wait until after 7 p.m. on basically all stations, when all the old men who have been in the business for decades come on, lol. It's sad, but it's true. Anything before that just seems to be, like you said, mainly for entertainment and highlighting various issues all over the world and country so their isn't any grand focus on the election. The main time the issues are going to be discussed between the candidates is during a debate. There's no getting around that really. The rest of the time they are too busy campaiging to be sitting down having discussions with each other that could have been done later and in a public forum.
