John McCain-a liberal?

Republicans - We know McCain is not a "conservative" republican but isn't he still ALOT better than any Democrat? Why or why not? What are your most important issues when voting? I know I'm asking alot but 10 points to the Best answer with the most detail. Thanks.

Public Comments

  1. he is not a liberal
  2. He's honest...and since people feel like they have been fed lies by conservatives for the past 8 years, they're associating him with change, and typically change means a new political position (i.e. liberal)
  3. He's better than a democrat, granted. Why should THIS PERSON with his views get the support of conservatives, and legislate with dems for 4 years? He doesn't deserve to lead the conservative party. I'd really rather vote for someone who will eloquently explain why conservative principles work, and why liberal principles fail. I hate to just vote against the most liberal candidate.
  4. He may be a lot better than any other Democrat but he still shouldn't be considered a good choice for the Republican Party. The Republican Party is the conservative party and we don't need any democrats running as republicans.
  5. Agreed. On fiscal and defense issues he is a conservative. On many social isses he is a liberal but then again so is Bush and he got elected. As long as he does not grant amnesty (republicans in Congress would block it) and defends this country I can live with him as president.
  6. McCain is the best candidate for America from any party...
  7. first of all John Mccain by any stretch is not a liberal! Does any liberal want more troops in Iraq? God, these stupid liberals want peace on earth, want to stop killing so many young men, they want choices for women, they want universal healthcare. God, they are so freaking stupid! Them Republicans really know how to run the governement. They've done a great job for the past 7 years......................not!!!!!!!! Stupid Republicans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Not necessarily. John McCain teamed up with Sen. Feingold and Sen.Kennedy to draft, introduce, and pass legislation that is demonstrably ANTI-Constitutional. (So-called campaign finance reform) He is already eliminated from consideration, in my book. How about Rudy? I mean, come on, he's running as a Republican, but we all know he's a democrat.:)
  9. As a voting Democrat I would vote Mccain. Mainly because he is a moderate and won't stand for unnecessary spending. He is easily the best candidate out there. Too bad guiliani will be his running mate. They should make a Mccain Obama ticket. I vote based on how smart or stupid the president will be. Plus foreign relations with other leaders. The world is one big community, and we need someone who will be a good representative for the US.
  10. best way I've heard McCain described is as a R-I-N-O Republican In Name Only
  11. John McCain is willing to cross his own party line if he feels differently on an issue. That is to say, he's not purely Republican. The past seven years shows that the Republican party has mostly abandoned conservative economic principles. McCain isn't truly economically conservative, but he is moreso than what we have right now, and that counts for something. I doubt any of the Republican candidates are truly economically conservative though. My prime issues are free trade with rational oversight and regulation (Keep us safe, keep companies competitive, but do not crush business incentive), economic responsibility (No more record deficits), net neutrality, anti-censorship (Why I hate Hillary, and probably my single biggest beef with McCain), and no torture. America is better than that, and McCain is the only man who truly understands that issue, since he was there, he lived through it. That, and while I'm not fond of the Iraq war, I think McCain is the only pro-war candidate I've seen who has any idea on how to stay in Iraq without making it more off a mess. McCain isn't an ideal candidate for most anyone, but he's a pretty good candidate who I like more than I dislike, and that sure beats voting for the lesser of two evils.
