A very tough presidential election year?

Do you think after the 2008 elections the country will continue down a bi-partisan trend. Or resemble election years of past, where tensions rise, but reside after a President is determined? Any thoughts? Fair points Jon B and 4mom. Kudos.

  1. Our country is at point where one side will come out as the domminant side. Whether this election cycles determines that or not, this period of tention will subsiide for a while and then re-ignite in the future. Its a cycle, we will never eliminate biased based politics as it drives at the core of a free society.
  2. I think that no matter who is elected this year, they will spend only one term. Sort of like we as a country will be waiting for a better candidate. I have no thoughts/opinion about the bi-partisan.
  3. It will depend a lot on who is elected. If Hillary Clinton takes office I think it'll be 4 more years of partisan bickering and anger. Hillary tends to be a polarizing figure. She's a "love or hate" politician without a lot of middle ground. If anyone else gets elected (Republican or Democrat) I think we've got a shot of calming things down. Obama is good at working with people of all stripes, as is Huckabee and McCain. Romney is just a douchebag that will do whatever is popular and politically convenient at the time, so that could go either partisan or bipartisan since he has no character, convictions, and his spine is as flimsy as a sheet of paper. An Edwards presidency would be a highly partisan one too. He's got the same blowhard problem that Hillary has. Although, this is probably a moot point since his candidacy is finished.
