John Mccain was imprisoned?
I was wondering did anyone know John Mccain was a prisoner of war. This is'nt some presdential question where i try to convnce you to vote for him, becuase personally im voting for someone else. But anyways I just found out he was a prisoner of war for like 3 years, and the people who prisoned him (i think the vietnam?)said that if he would say something bad about the USA, they would let him go. And he refused and was imprisoned again. I never knew about this, did anyone else?

- Yes, it is widely known. It's good to see young people actually researching those who wish to be our leader.
- yes. McCain was a POW.
- Yea, mostly anyone who has ever watched TV or read a newspaper. I take it you are quite young. At least you sound like you are educating yourself about politics.
- Yes, it's a remarkable story. Even though I disagree with his stand on a lot of issues, I have incredible respect for him as a man.
- Yes, it is well known that McCain was shot down and held during the Vietnam war.
- Indeed. John McCain was a POW in the Vietnam war. I am not sure if the "say anything bad about the USA" bit is correct (I can't imagine them letting their enemies go for simply saying that), but he is very much a patriot for his service(as were any of the candidates who served - such as Ron Paul).
- It's well know. He even referenced the fact in one of his TV ads.
- An American Hero that serves his country to this day was at one time a prisoner of war. Respectable and honorable.
- Yes ,it is common knowledge. you must be very young but willing to learn, That's a good thing
- Yes.. it's common knowledge
- yes it's well known, John McCain was tortured by the Viet Namese, that's why he says water boarding is torture as it was probably done to him. knowing this how can bush and chaney say it is not torture,America is suppose to have higher standards. since bush okay ed water boarding is this another impeachable offense and now the destruction of CIA torture tapes have been destroyed also, did bush order the tapes destroyed to cover up another one of his crimes?
- yes he's the best person running he has my confidence and vote.
- Sure, he was shot down while bombing the North Vietnamese cities. You expected them to be nice to him? Would you be nice to an Arab pilot who just blew your city up? Probably not. George Bush 41 was also shot down, in the Pacific War. JFK's PT boat was cut in half by a Japanese destroyer. Eisenhower of course was a war hero but not a combat hero. All of them were, by the way, MUCH younger when they ran for President. McCain is far too old to be elected.
- Not only was McCain imprisoned, whenever he was tortured they would offer to let him go IF he made a videotape denouncing America. Each time he refused. And each time he refused, he was tortured some more. This went on for six years and McCain was injured so badly that he can no longer raise his arms above his head. He wrote a book titled "Faith of My Fathers" that details his imprisonment. It's a very good book, but it is NOT a bedtime story!
- yes, in vietnam, as his plane was shot down.
- Yes, he was a POW but it was for about 6 years. October 26, 1967- March 15, 1973
- Do you qualify as slow? McCain has been playing that card for a long, long, long time. It was mentioned when he ran against the chickenhawk the 1st time. So?
- he also had an offer of release because his father was important, but because they would not release his fellow prisoners he declined the special treatment.I'm still not voting for him.
- Yes.
