Who out there is seriously considering Mitt Romney as a viable Republican nominee for President?

I see absolutely no redeeming qualities about him. He's nice looking but in a smarmy way. He seems way too plastic.Of course, I am biased as I plan to vote democratic but I'd love to hear a good argument for Mitt Romney. Mr-I have 5 sons none of whom - are fighting for their country. Ceskv-I have issues with candidates who want to stay in a war and do not lead by example. If he feels so strongly that we need to fight a war on terror than why isn't at least one of his sons in the military. I respect John McCain for walking the walk. His son is there. Just for the record I am not thumbs downiing anyone, I want to know why you do or do not like Romney johnny conservative-great answer, but I consider being a liberal a compliment not an insult. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. He can't win. However, that's no reason to criticize his sons for their choices concerning joining the military. They have their own lives.
  2. I have no problem with Romney who is a religous man
  3. Yeah, he's as plastic as he seems (I'm a former Massachusetts resident).
  4. He could get the nomination, if he wins big in Iowa, he'll probably get NH, and if history tells us anything, that will probably be enough momentum for him to win the nomination.
  5. I totally agree with you, plus, I am unhappy with how he handled things in Massachusetts. He flipped sides on several topics between when he ran for election for governor there and how he is running for president now. He just didn't handle things well there. Whether he becomes the frontrunning republican or not matters much to me. I'm pretty sure our country is fed up with enough republican beliefs to elect a democrat, whether it is Clinton, Obama, Edwards, whoever.
  6. The problem I have with Romney is the one I have with Hillary...the past does not match with the present...Romney started universal insurance converage in Mass, but criticizes Dems for trying to implement it....I can stand anything but a hypocrite and a panderer.
  7. I am quite seriously considering ALL the republican candidates so yes Mitt does make my list. He is not on top mainly because I am having a hard time with the Mormon thing. Unlike some folks I've actually studied and have had life experience with that group and I'm not sure he'll be able to separate his beliefs from the job. Peace
  8. NOT ME --- Iike President Bush , I think he is in debted to the wealthy. The tax cuts he proposes will only help those with plenty of money TRICKLE DOWN DOES NOT EXIST
  9. I think he is viable. He has a stong business background and was a good governor in a traditionally democratic state. (Mass.). He is way more qualified that ANY of the democratic nominees. The only thing that may hurt him is his religion. Holding it against him that he has sons none of whom are fighting in the war is a pretty cheap shot. But I should not be too surprised.....coming from a liberal.
  10. Certainly not me! This Country is in need of a change and currently the Dems are offering something more realistic to the American public. The Republican leadership has not come up with a resolution to support Working Families and even how to deal with those individuals taking the hand outs for granted. Give us a plan that puts the American dream back into our lives.
  11. I think that plenty of people don't like him because they envy the great choices he has made throughout his life. The man is a self made millionaire who has helped set up companies like staples, dominos and such.......and is responsible for the employment of tens of thousands of people, he saved the 2002 Olympics from shear peril, he balanced the budget in Mass without raising taxes, found a way to get people insured without a govt takeover, he has a picture perfect family...................I mean whats not to like about the guy??? for crying out loud he is a Harvard grad and a BYU grad, its not like the guy isn't smart or inexperienced. Where Mitt Romney goes, success follows. If you think that he is just "too" perfect well.....there are people in this world (especially Mormons) who just plain are the go-getters in society. He has dealt with issues that we now face today
  12. I honestly couldn't take ANY member of America's very own made up religion seriously... IF he had enough redeeming qualities to overcome that obstacle(which he doesn't imo)... well, he's STILL a politician... 2 strikes you're out!
  13. Romney certainly has the credentials. He's been a governor of Massachusetts, a very blue state so he must be doing something right to get elected there. He is independently wealthy, he is an excellent businessman. He also was in charge of the 2002 Winter Olympics. There only negative, if you call it a negative, is the fact that he is a Mormon. http://www.mittromney.com/Learn-About-Mitt/Mittxs_Biography
  14. Mitt Romney was on the top of my list from the very beginning. The man is strong and direct like a business man should be. He would be very hard to beat when it comes to economic issues. I believe Mitt Romney is not too nice or too what ever...... He is nice but can be tough. He doesn't bash Bush but I think he knows what he needs to change. What Mitt Romney takes on he will finish. I trust him because he is disciplined and a good family man. There is really nothing bad to dig up on him.
  15. For a time I thought he might be the MOST viable among the Republican candidates, but further consideration of his Mormon religion coupled with his flip-flops on every issue have changed my mind. Seeing how many Republicans think and act on religion, I doubt he'll get the nomination. And if he does, we'll kill him on the flip flops! The more I see, the more I think we (hopefully Edwards, Richardson or perhaps Obama) . . . will be running against Mike Huckabee.
