Will Gov. Mitt Romney be running on the polygamy ticket this election?
I don't know why Fox News and MSNBC continue to give Governor Mitt Romney easy questions. We can't find out whether or not he will be trying to push the legality of polygamy once in the White House. One of my Law students brought up the fact that Mr. Romney is a practicing Mormon and that Mormonism was illegal in the United States due to the polygamy aspect. I mentioned that Mr. Romney's political background does not reflect his Mormon beliefs and that he appears to go with the ideals suggested by more mainstream Republicans. But every news anchor that has interviewed him has been stepping around the polygamy issue. I think that is due to the fact that polygamy is a fundamental belief of the Mormon faith. In the public eye Mr. Romney only shows off one wife but then as Dateline MSNBC showed they only expose the host wife, as not to get caught. There are those that argue that if you allow Gay marriage then to be equal you have to allow polygamy. But Gay marriage isn't legal anyway. "Mainstream Mormons rejected polygamy a long time ago". What are you talking about? The founder of radical Mormonism (Joseph Smith) was born in 1805 and any mainstream Mormonism didn't exist before him? He wasn't born that long ago so your statement doesn't make any sense (a long time ago). This country had been run by Judeo-Christian lawmakers and the Christian faith doesn't allow for polygamy or homosexuality. Joseph Smith was a disgruntled Christian and founded his own religion that would accept his sexual desire for many women. The Christian churches outlawed polygamy and that is why it has been illegal in the United States and Western Europe even hundreds of years before any form of Mormonism (radical or so-called mainstream) began or existed. "Just a bit shy on your history aren't you? The Mormon community did away with multiple wives years ago". Doctdon, Perhaps you need a history lesson they didn't do away with it. The Christians didn't let them do it. With all due respect Doctdon, you really need to read below the titles and beyond the first page.

- Mitt Romney was my governor for 4 great years! He is exactly who you see him as...a terrific guy with solid morals!!!!
- No. He has only 1 wife. Mainstream Mormons rejected polygamy a long time ago.
- At least he has been married to the same woman for many years. More than you can say for McCain and Guliani. Ron Paul is the candidate I am for. He is pro gun and will end the ridiculous spending of billions of dollars and valuable lives of our military over in Iraq. Ron Paul also seems to be the only one (that I am aware of) mentioning that the Federal Reserve is causing inflation by printing way too many US Dollars. It is a miracle of God that the dollars in our pockets are worth anything at all.
- http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Find-Freedom.htm?At=01819 CHECK IT OUT !!!!! Ron Paul 2008!!!!! To patriotic american: They're not worth anything, they are only certificates of debt. Federal Reserve "Note". You're getting there though.
- You need to study bud. Mormons stopped practicing polygamy before my great-grandparents were born. Only a few wacko's who broke off from mormonism practice polygamy anymore. Anyone found practicing polygamy in the modern mormon faith is immediately excommunicated, whether they are the governor or not.
- Excuse me but the most famous Mormans I know of are Osmonds. As in Donny & Marie. AND they don't go for multiple wives??? I am Irish, so I am a drunk, you are yellow and u are quiet and dumfounded, black and on my way to jail, green I am an alien and I have been seen already by a Gov in ?? SO tell me earthworm what planet do u reside in/on? Alittle behind the times or prejudice? WTF a host wife? Do u have proof or are u speculating as I already mentioned ASSuming ? My opinions, thank u , u asked for comments u got this side. Or did u just tell your side by this question?
- yes, but first he has to defeat the candidates of the Adultery Ticket, Guilliano and Gingrich.
- Mr. Romney is a "mainstream" LDS member. The LDS church outlawed polygamy over 100 years ago. Only a very small break-off group calling themselves FLDS still practice polygamy. Romney is only married to one woman.
- Well, if Bookworm and Yupchagee are right then he would not. I don't know if mainstream LDS Mormons rejected the teachings of Joseph Smith as Bookworm and Yupchagee have stated. If they have then they are not part of the radical movement started by Brigham Young and Joseph Smith. These guys were notorious for having many wives including young girls against their will just like these FLDS members we hear about going to jail for statutory rape. It is quite possible that Mr. Romney's church isn't at all connected to the child rape and polygamy that Smith and Young practiced.
- I'm more conserned about his stance on the issues than his personal life. He's only been governor for 4 years. He wants to continue the war in Iraq. His grandfather had more than one wife. He's a total flip-flopper. I like Ron Paul, he's not a flip-flopper. He's different from all the rest in so many ways.
- Just a bit shy on your history aren't you? The Mormon community did away with multiple wives years ago. As far as the news programs sidestepping the issue? You can't sidestep it if it is not an issue. Obviously it is not. I think he is a pretty upstanding man.
- Most people want to Know where he stands on same sex marriages, polygamy and smoking bans which are not prochoice. Speaking of Prochoice where does he stand on abortion, euthanasia, Illegal Immigration or amnesty for Illegal Immigrants, religous freedom of others, or will everybody have to convert and become Mormon, to get anything done? Fox, Cnn nor MSNBC will ask hard questions! Is it that he will not give straight and direct no nonsense answers, just like Mc Cain, Obama, Hillary and the rest of them?
