Do you think Mitt Romney may be able to empathize more with people in minority religions?
Since Mitt Romney was a Mormon living in Massachusetts, do you think that his experiences may have made him likely to be more mindful and understanding in regards to other people that are in minority religions? Has anyone heard him make any statements that might indicate that he may be especially tolerant of people of different faiths? From everything I've heard about Huckabee, it sounds like a non-Christian could never trust him. Do you think that Mitt Romney's experiences might make him a bit more open on religious issues than most Republican candidates tend to be?

- I think we should separate politics and religion. You may be right in suggesting that Romney might be more empathetic towards minority groups, but I see no reason to think so.
- Yes and no. I don't think that'll come up during the primaries, because Romney's weary of the fundy distaste for Mormons and wants to appeal to the Republican fundamentalist Christian base, but if he were elected then I think most likely yes. Romney has shown by being governor of Massachussets that he's a pretty reasonable, and inclusive man and can work well with many different people of varying beliefs.
- As a Mormon, I can tell you that Romney is required to respect all religions. One of our basic beliefs is: We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege - let them worship how, where or what they may. (article of Faith 11, Joseph Smith) Incidentally, this is one of the many evidences that Mormonism is not a cult. Leaders of cults demand absolute loyalty to the beliefs of the cult, and absolute rejection of any other ideas.
- He will do well for all the cults
- As someone else mentioned, it's in the creeds of our faith to be tolerant of others beliefs and religions. Huckabee scares the heck out of me.(But that doesn't mean I will vote for Romney!) It's unfortunate the religion has become such a major issue in this campaign, because it shouldn't matter.
