Who would win: John Edwards versus Mitt Romney?

If the 2008 presidential election is John Edwards (D) vs. Mitt Romney (R) Who would win and why?

1. Well, they are basically two birds of the same feather - ultra rich individuals mostly out of touch with the average person. Romney would be slightly less dangerous, so I would hope that he'd win.
2. According to the Rev. Billy Bob...Romney is the anti-Christ...he should have enough magical powers to win...
3. Edwards. Romney is too much of a patholigical liar and flip-flopper to win. Edwards is fake too, but he appears honest especially compared side-by-side with Flip Flopney. In addition, Romney will lose a few states in the South to John Edwards.
4. Interesting question! They're both the 'pretty boys' of their party. Both good speakers. They sort of balance each other. I think Romney would lose. I don't think Romney has a chance because he's Mormon. I just don't think fundamentalist Christians will vote for Mormon. They won't talk about it too loudly, but they believe Mormonism is a cult. Romney was worried about this and gave a speech a week ago to clear the air. It turned out to be the wrong strategy. In the speech Romney said all the things that Christians wanted to hear--Christian Nation, the Founders were Fundamentalists, etc.etc. But he lost ground in the polls and Huckabee (the more 'genuine' Christian) gained. I think it might have been that there were many Christian voters who simply hadn't been paying enough attention this early in the race to realize that Romney was a Mormon. When they learned, they changed their preference.
5. as much as i don't like either of them , id say mitt would win. even the Dem's know how phony Edwards is , he takes it to new highs
6. Edwards would lose by a landslide voters hate lawyers in general and he's surely one.
7. John Edwards would take that one. As soon as 'Values Voters' learn that Romney's religion has the Garden of Eden located in Jackson, Missouri, they are going to be rather surprised and uneasy about him as a candidate as well. Not that this should define Romney's candidacy, but that's how A LOT of people are swayed during election years....John Edwards is also talking about helping the Middle Class, that is going to be a powerful message this time round. Hopefully these will not be the choices.
8. I would vote for Romney over Edwards if that was the unfortunate choice. I see them as intelligent, superficial, narcissistic men who remind me of why "The Peter Principal" was a best-seller in the Seventies.
9. I'd vote for Romney, I just dont get someone who gets $400 haircuts. Oh and Romney said he doesn't care about tax cuts for the rich, he is concerned with the middle class. Edwards seems to only care about the very rich (like himself) and the poor.

13. John Edwards, I hope. He is smarter, decent and honesat, unlike Romney, who is a right wing chameleon.
14. Mitt Romney. He can speak intelligently about key issues and has proven leadership skills. He ran a company successfully, ran the Olympics successfully and ran a state successfully. John Edwards may be a nice guy but he's light in leadership skills and also seems never to have taken an economics class because his economic proposals are a bit misguided.

16. It is a mute point. Edwards is so far down in the polls it doesn't matter. But Mitt would win because Edwards is another used car salesman like Bill Clinton.

18. John Edwards, because Edwards would have more support from Independents, and frustrated Republicans. The Independents and those undecided, will decide the election.
19. John Edwards may have an easier time attracting independents, but only if people vote straight party tickets next November. If there's one thing that this primary season has taught us, it's that wherever Mitt Romney goes, people support him. Yes, that support has slipped a bit lately, but at all other times it has steadily risen. He'll have ten months to show himself to the rest of the country and gain the support of the independents. If George W. Bush could do it, then so can Romney. Hopefully, the other GOP candidates will do the honorable thing and go home to campaign for Romney; Fred Thompson in Tennessee (and Hollywood), John McCain in the Senate and Arizona, Mike Huckabee in Arkansas, etc. Just as hopefully, they'll be able to rebuild the bridges they've burned down over the last year, hitting Romney for all they're worth just so they won't have to lose to him in the primaries. But if the general election match-up is Romney vs. Edwards, then they won't have much of a choice. Regardless, I'll be voting for Romney in that eventuality. He's the candidate who most closely represents my values.
