Did you know Mitt Romney dodged the Draft by going on a MORMAN MISSION??

By comparison, McCain spent 3 yrs in a Vietnam POW camp http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2008/specials/romney/articles/part1_side_2/

  1. Theres one more reason I cant stand the man. Not that I have anything against Mormons, but I think Romney used the faith, in this case, to get what he wants. Typical religious charlatan.
  2. I'm not surprised. I doubt he has the backbone to command our armed forces at all.
  3. Didn't Bush and Clinton prove that this isn't important to most voters.
  4. Well I don't like Romney but it has nothing to do with his religion (granted it doesn't help) I just don't like him, his positions, his flip-flopping... and the list goes on.
  5. I could care less if he went to a mission instead of war and McCain is part of the fading generation that lets fear run their lives and thinks he is a father figure that knows best instead of a representative of the peoples will.
  6. doesn't surprise me one bit. I live in Massachusetts....he unfortunatley was our govenor for the past 4 years. All he did was raise taxes here!!!!! He was a terrible governor. Mitt Romney has no business being our next president.........
  7. I don't have a problem believing he did that. That is the difference between a true patriot, & Mitt Romney. I won't be voting for either of them, but I still respect Mr McCain more for his time in the service defending the US.
  8. yes McCain is a war hero and Mitt Romney is a MORMAN oh and by the way the sky is blue..
  9. I don't believe that he went on his mission in order to "dodge the draft". He comes from an active LDS family and it is very common for young men to serve missions (at their own expense). He probably had been planning his whole life, as most boys do, to serve a mission for the Lord. It wasn't something that he just decided to do because of the draft. That accusation makes you really sound ignorant...and not spelling Mormon correctly doesn't help either. Why aren't you talking about Huckabee, Clinton, Edwards, etc. I haven't heard them talk about their military service. Did they serve?? Why are you only focusing on Mitt??
  10. That doesn't change my opinion of the man, but I didn't care for him to start with. I don't like McCain either. Yes, McCain was a POW. His voting record concerning Vets and the military in general leaves me cold. He has consistantly voted AGAINST anything for the Vets - better treatment, updating or building new facilities, research, increases in disability benefits. He also has voted against weapons research and development, body armour, funds to up armour the vehicles used in combat, pay raises for the military, upgrading the base housing. It is public record, check it out if you don't believe me.
  11. !st off I haven't decided yet whom i will be voting for. Romney is not ruled out. But i wonder if people actually read the articles they quote. I am tired of hearing about this politician and that politician who had a deferment for this or that or so and so dodged the draft by doing this or that. There were hundreds of thousands of active duty troops who never set foot in Nam. Did they dodge the draft? Anyway this is from the link in the question. "he became eligible for military service in 1970, he drew a high number in the annual lottery that determined which young men were drafted" He was eligible for the draft after 1970 and lucked out. So sorry can't use this against the man.
  12. you took this the wrong way heres a quote form that link "His high number ensured he was not drafted into the military." and another one "When Governor Romney's deferment for college and missionary service ended, he made himself available for military service, and his name went into the lottery, but he was not selected," enough said. almost(as in 80-99%) of all lds go on a 2 years mission, its part of they're religion. you just an ignorant jerkoff. next time read the whole story not just the head line. and dont think i want him to be president i would more likely vote for mcain or huckabee.
  13. Your ignorance of Mormonism and the various provisions of the draft law is showing. The LDS church requires 2 years of mission from it's male members--at 17 or when the graduate High School. Military service is the only exception to this. The US reciprocated for the miltiary service exception by granting a draft deferrment for that 2 year period of mission service, which could likely have been forced on them by court challenge anyway, thinking about it, not unlike exceptions to the draft for the Amish and Jehova's Witnesses. If you don't think that he should have taken the deferrment, fine, that's a valid opinion, but don't go out in public to fob off your opinions as facts.
  14. I think to lead a military and a country for that matter you should at the very least have served. Not ROTC or anything like that but actually did a contract worth. I also beleive that it should be a requirement for everyone then they would be able to appreciate what or country is worth.
  15. And John Kerry was a VietNam hero, and Hillary as all that experience. Who cares?? By the way 5 1/2 years as a POW.Get your facts sdtraight
