Is Mitt Romney being a Mormon actually a GOOD thing, and a reason to vote FOR him?

Let's get the facts straight on Mormonism: There are only 3 churches in America with more members (Roman Catholic, Southern Baptist, and United Methodist). If we question whether a Mormon should be president, we never allow a Lutheran, Presbyterian, Assembly of God, or Episcopalian to be president, since those churches are all smaller, right? Mormons believe in Jesus Christ, the Bible, being faithful to ONE spouse (no, they don't practice polygamy), charity, honesty, obeying the law, not swearing, not using addictive substances (alcohol, tobacco, coffee, etc), and are generally some of the most wholesome members of society. Mormons have served as upstanding governors, senators, and cabinet members for nearly 200 years. I think Romney being a mormon is a reason TO vote for him, not to vote AGAINST him. The fact that he adheres to a religion with such high standards is very commendable! Ask almost anyone what religion (if any) the other presidential candidates belong to and no one knows.

1. Religion should not be an issue in presidential politics. In the US a man can believe whatever he wants. I don't know of any President who let his religion dictate his Administration's policies. It would not happen with Mr. Romney. He served as governor of one of the most liberal states. He did not try to convert anyone. No one in Mass denigrated him because of his religion.
2. Absolutely, and I think this is a fact that will come out more and more in the near future. Most people are grossly and largely misinformed about Mormonism, and his campaign is doing a great job about bringing publicity to the church and its reputation for family values and morals. He also never cheated on his wife ;)
3. Did you say high standards, hey dude they are just a bunch of loons. they are just as looney as catholics, and muslims.
4. Its that some do not see Mormons as Christians and for a long time there was a tremendous hatred against Mormons here, there leader Smith was killed. I have no problem with him being a Mormon and president. But some will always just as why some still do no want a woman, black, Jewish, etc.

I would never vote for a Mormon no matter what...The Mormon religion has had their hands sullied by too many events that directly affected my forefathers for me to forgive them or for me to allow them to run my country But I would also not vote for a born-again, a fundamental muslim or anyone who is 'faith based' over ' being reality based.

7. Romney's religion, like any other candidate's means nothing. Quick...what was W's and Clinton's religions. I didn't think so. I'm far more interested in a presidential candidate's intellect, experience, education, accomplishments and curiousity.
8. i wouldnt vote for him. from what i've seen, most mormons tend to think that they're religion is the only religion that is right. sure, they have tons of great beliefs but... they tend to have grudges on people who've quit the LDS church.

They tend to have very fundamental ideas,and when they gain power they express these ideas.1 reason the mormons were ran out of missouri was because they were trying to establish a theocracy. 10. If he practices his "Mormon" religion then yes. If he doesn't then no. I should know because I am of that faith as well
11. I think a man's standards are a great reason to vote for them. (or not for her lol) Your beliefs make up your ideals, and they control your conduct. Thus a strong moral person = strong moral decisions.
12. I agree completely. That said, I hate Harry Reid of Nevada, who is also Mormon. Religion alone is a terrible reason TO vote or NOT to vote for someone. Vote for them on character, record, and how you think they'll represent you as a citizen.
13. I am Church of God. We do not need a Mormon running the US. He may believe in God and only having one wife, but if you study the history of Momonism, they have a very different religion. They are basically a cult. Mitt Romney maybe a nice person and everything, but he don't need to be in the White House either.
14. Anyone who says they won't vote for someone based on their religion is ignorant. Anyone who reads my answers knows I am leaving the Mormon church. I have major inssues with it. But none of them would effect my political views. I like Romney. I like what he's done as a Governor, and I think he is the best candidate out there. And the fact that he is Mormon has nothing to do with it. I also HATE Harry Reid and he is Mormon. The only reason religion should have anything to do with it is if someone is running on the platform of making their religion the official religion of the country. Romney is not doing that.
15. You know, when I heard Mitt Romney was a Mormon and running for President my first reaction was: "cool, let's hear what he has to say." I think I have a tendency to vote for policies rather than "he smoked Marihuana in College" (Clinton), or "he got drunk every other weekend" (Bush) or "he is a Mormon" (Romney). We'll see.
