How would the right wing of the Republican Party deal with Mitt Romney, a Mormon, in a primary campaign?
I am certainly not a liberal. I was wanting to get some opinons on whether or not there would be any friction between his being a Mormon, and a large percentage of the Republican base being protestant Christians.

- What do you mean? From this question i am judging that you are liberal. I thought liberals were very strong in the everything equal! So what is wrong with it? Its no different then having a catholic or atheist runner! What happened to seperating Church and State?
- What does being a Mormon have to do with anything? It's no problem at all.
- What does it matter what religion a person is if they have the same political beliefs as you? The republicans believe in equal rights (freed the slaves remember?) and freedom of religion is also part of that.
- What makes you think right wingers would have a problem with Mitt?Hes a great guy and a conservative, religion has nothing to do with his capabilities. You sound like a lib with that question. They dont like religious people.
- I don't really think there would be much of an issue with his religion. Mormons are conservative, family-oriented people. I think that means more to the Republican right-wing than any doctrinal differences.
- How does the left-wing deal with Harry Reid, a Mormon? Quit it
- Anyone but Hillary
- 33% of people polled said they would not elect a Mormon running for the presidency, where as only 16% said they wouldn't support a Jew so based on this mitt will not run but Lieberman might depending upon the next year or so.
- I wonder that myself. Romney is a Mormon and evangelicals might a be a little wary of him. The Mormon church has been around many controversies and some Christians might be a little doubtful to vote for him. Not to mention he is from the North in a state where gay marriage is allowed and although, he is pro-life personally he was pro-choice as governor.
- Evidently, people out there don't know that the Mormon church allows for the practice of polygamy. I think that was the major issue of your question. Funny how all the learned answerers out there calling you names were unaware of that fact. They would probably back him down party lines any way. Even if he had 12 wives. Geeez!
- Actually the mormon church outlawed polygamy a long time ago. It is only the "fanatical" mormons that still practice polygamy. Anyone who thinks the Republican establishment would alienate their christian conservative base by endorsing a mormon are CRAZY. Incidentally this is a fair question and does not make you a liberal.
- Why would you presume that someone's religious belief would be any kind of issue? Unless the candidate is a Wiccan or perhaps a Scientologist, it won't be an issue. You'll hear the media try to gin it up,, but that'll just be for style points.
