Can fundamentalist Christians vote for Mitt Romney, a Mormon for president?

Many protestant religions do not recognize the Mormons as a "true faith". Are they willing to have a president that is from a "false faith"?

16. They can vote for anyone they choose; it's just a matter of how great their fear and mistrust of Latter-day Saints and the Mormon faith is. As a Humanist, I would not vote for a Humanist candidate if I thought there were a religious candidate in the running who was better qualified. I vote on the issues. The only thing I need to know about a candidate's religious attitudes is whether he or she understands the importance of religious freedom and will protect and defend every person's right to worship or not worship as he chooses. If a candidate would support my rights as a Humanist but would not support my mother, who is Christian, or my friends who are Neopagan, or the folks down the street who are Muslim, then he doesn't get my vote.
17. I would never vote for someone from a cult religion to be the leader of the country. This is not to say that I have been happy with Bush who claims to be a Christian (I do not believe that he is a Christian but that is another topic...look at Bohemian Grove footage for an eye opener of our President). But I would NEVER voluntarily put someone in office who declares something so opposite of what I believe.

19. Christians can vote for anyone they want to...just like everybody else. The question is WILL they. Probably not. I know I wouldn't. This doesn't mean I think he's a bad guy, that I'm judging him, or anything else. It just means that I don't want someone representing me if I don't believe in their value system.

21. First off, not all Protestants are fundamentalist Christian. I am Protestant Christian, I am not Mormon and actually hold the LDS religion is complete distain, however, the fact that he is Mormon does not have anything to do with my vote.
22. All faiths are false some will accept him as Christian and some will not. I doubt that he will be the nominee for his party though.

24. They are not voting for a national religion. They are voting for a man to lead our country. He is not imposing his religion on anyone, it will not affect his leadership abilities. Could fundamentalists vote for a Catholic or a Jew? Would they be so closed minded as to only vote for a person based on their religion and not their ability to do the job? If a person were going to be hired to be the superintendent of the local school district, would they want to hire the person who believed the way they do even if he were incompetent, versus a person who was a great educator? I just don't know about people some times. I haven't been able to vote for a Mormon for president ever, and I am a Mormon. I have voted for people from all religious backgrounds all my life, because I thought they were the best person for the job.
25. I wasn't aware we were voting for A MORMON for president. When I voted for Jimmy Carter, I wasn't voting for A BAPTIST. Religions don't run for president, PEOPLE do.
26. I am blown away by the bigotry exhibited by many of these responses, including the one that said they would vote for him because he is Mormon. It sheds negatively on the state of our Country and is evidence of a general lack of respect by many. I am not trying to tear people down, but using the term bigot based on the dictionary definition. I would vote for any person, regardless of their religion, if I thought they would be good for our country, if their morals were high, if they held many of the same values I did and if they would push the agenda I believe most important. We will never completely agree with every candidate. I have most often voted Democratic, but I don't vote party-line either, because it also shows ignorance. Can't wait for the election year and the debates. May we vote for the best person, not just for or against someone because of a personal belief. (A final note...Mormons aren't just Republicans, but are encouraged to make personal decisions based upon education and personal conviction).
27. If there is any fundamentalist church that will not permit their members to vote for Mitt Romney they are breaking the law because the law allows us the freedom to vote for whoever we want to. They can discourage their members from voting for a candidate but when they vote they can vote for anyone they want to. Would a Baptist vote for a Catholic eventhough their believes are different? Yes it happened with Kennedy. Remember running for President is not a Church job.
28. Fundamentalist christians would love Mitt Romney as their president, because he's just as corrupt as they are. True mormons and true Christians would vote for a candidate in the Constitution Party or any other similar party.
