How will the fact that Mitt Romney is a member of the LDS (Mormon) Church effect his campaign?
There continues to be a lot of talk about the fact that Mitt Romney is a Mormon. Is it right to focus on his religion? Will his religion be a factor in his chances of winning the GOP nomination? And what role will religion play for other candidates? And SHOULD it be a factor? WhyAreYouaREMF - Obama is not a Muslm, he's a Christian. You can look it up. For some reason people are fascinated by Mormonism. I think that if Michael Bloomberg (who is Jewish) runs there will be less talk about his being Jewish then there is about Romney being Mormon.

- At least he is not a muslim like Obama.
- Vote for Mitt Romney! he is my man.
- People thought that John F Kennedy's being a Roman Catholic was going to be a major factor when he was elected too, he won.
- Well Kennedy was a Catholic and he won. But I see your point. Joe Lieberman, a Jew, got his butt kicked. Nixon was a Quaker and he was elected. Oh well. I guess LDS are Christians, sorta. Personally, I don't think Mitt's religion is an issue. Mormons like people from all relgious faths fall into two categories: (1) those that are dirtbags and (2) those that are good people. The real issue is whether Mitt is a dirtbag or a good person. But I guess, that's true with all of the candidates, isn't it? So guess we should see where they stand on the issues, rather than which version of God they choose to pray to.
- I don't care what he is. I don't plan on going to church with him. I just want to know his views on America.
- It shouldn't matter, and mostly it won't. Their will be some people who will probably refuse to vote for him because he is Mormon. There will always be prejudice and bigotry in the world (we are human after all).
- No different than any other religious belief each cadidate holds. Religion is NOT to be a litmus test for holding any government office per the Constitution! +
- No, religion is such a personal issue and it should NOT play any part. Let's look at the sum and substance of a candidate as we sort out our voting minds!
- I am planning to vote for him
- Some Christians don't accept Mormonism as a form of Christianity. If you know anything about the Mormon religion, then you know that their beliefs are really wacky. They believe that Jesus came to America after he was crucified and that there was a white race in America which were later all killed by the Native Americans. It really is hard to take it seriously as there is no basis for their beliefs. Religion should be taken as one factor of the character of the candidate. Certainly, I would never vote for a Muslim as we are at war with fanatical Muslims. No avowed atheist stands a chance of being elected president, and the chances for a Jew are very slim too. Bloomberg has no chance, I don't care how rich he is.
- I know that liberals are hoping it does become an issue to divide the GOP. I may disagree with the LDS on certain issues but one thing I know about them. They are honest, hard working, and family ordinated. It isn't a factor unless you are religious bigots.
- Should not make a difference. But i'm voting for Ron Paul.. Mitt is for Pre emptive attacks on Iran something which the Book of Mormon teaches against.. MItt has surrounded himself by people who are members of the Council on Foreign Relations. The CFR a group of globalist a group which late president of the church Ezra Taft Bensen spoke against also. I would never vote for Mitt and I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon)
- The Mormons believe we all lived in Heaven with Heavenly Father, several Heavenly Mothers, and 20 Billion Heavenly Siblings. Then there was a war. The good guys won and were born White. The bad guys lost and became demons. Those who were neutral or did not fight bravely were born with non-white skin. The bravest of the brave were born to Mormon families. We all know that Romney must have been a "Valliant Warrior" in the "War in Heaven" during the "Pre-Existence". How else could he have been born "White and Delightsome" to an LDS family here on Earth? Heck, he was probably one of the Commanding Generals . Now , America needs a President with valuable military experience like that to get us through our war in Iraq. Could you please ask "The One and Only True Prophet", Gordon Hinkley, to please release those valuable records to the public? We need to know what battles he fought in. How many medals he won. How many of the "Less Valliant Soldiers" he recommended being born with black skin when they got their chance to be born on Earth. Was Al Sharpton one of THEM ? How about Jesse Jackson? Mormons, this is your chance to show the world the light of the everlasting gospel. Dont miss out. We have General Romney running for president of the USA and we need you badly right now!
- I don't think it should be an issue either way. Mitt Romney is a good candidate. He is the right man for the job. Not because he is Mormon, but just because he knows what he is doing. Some people might say that because he is a Mormon, we know he'll be honest and trustworthy, but unfortunately other public Mormon politicians (Harry Reid) Prove that being Mormon doesn't automatically mean you will be a good leader. Bottom Line: Vote for Romney! Not cause he's Mormon, but because he is the right man for the job.
