What do you think about having a mormon for a president?
From what i hear Romny is a pretty cool guy. If he can get himself reconized for 2008, he'll run for president. But from all the weird and odd things you hear about mormons, would you decline him just because of it? http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=gov2terminal&L=2&L0=Home&L1=Romney+Team&sid=Agov2&f=gov_mittromneybio_homepage&csid=Agov2&b=terminalcontent http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney

- Sure and all his First Wives!
- I would have to rate his ability to apply the principles of keeping Church and State separate before I could decide.
- beats a secular humanist... at least he would have SOME truth and sanity in him....
- Oops. I thought you meant "moron" at first, and I was going to say, "it's not my fault -- I voted for Gore!" But I see you're actually referring to someone else. cheers!
- I would have no problem voting for a Mormon for President. I don't know enough about Mitt Romney yet to know if I will support him, but his faith will not be the deciding factor.
- Depends on what he plans to do for this country. If he tries to implement the views of the church as his campaign platform, he won't have a chance.
- Don't want to think about it as I don't know where he stands on anything.
- I would not exclude him based on his religion. That is all I can say, as I know little about him.
- What could be worst than having Bush?
- No problem. We've had Catholics, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists so why not Mormons? It is the stand a president takes that makes the difference, not his religion.
- He is too conservative for me but -- as a Mormon he would have to convince me that he would do a better job of separating church and state the current gang has done. Much better.
- Mitt Romney is a fascinating person. I think he would make an excellent President and I would never not select him because of his religious beliefs. I have been tracking him for over a year now (I am involved in politics) and see him as a very strong contender in 08.
- I could not care what religion a president is. I just don't vote for right wingers though, so that would rule him out.
- Politicians have a right to private religious lives, and I would hope that one who is in a religious minority might be concerned about safeguarding the rights of other minority groups. I would vote based on his positions on domestic and international issues.
- That would be like having an ayatollah for President. Mormons are not allowed to be cool - it is part of their faith.
- I wouldn't decline any candidate based upon their faith alone. I don't know much about him politically, so I can't say whether or not I'd vote for him, but I can say that his religion is not a deterrent thus far.
- mormons can't even separate church and economics, how do you expect one to be able to separate church and state??
- Mitt Romney is a kewl guy,and his religion doesnt matter to me.He is a conservative and seems to be liked even by the democrats..suprisingly.I
- I shouldn;t think a president's religion would stop him from his duties. Kennedy was a great president and he was catholic. I have known a few mormons and they are some of the nicest people I have come across. Dick and Helen with their daughter circled the globe in their yacht for four or five times when I met them in Hong Kong.. Dick died recently and he will be sorely missed amongst the yachties and all the people he came in touch with. So, I wouldn't judge anybody for their religious beliefs except maybe muslims ? Where the killing of infidels is almost a sport. Urged on by their clerics they will even kill their own people.
- As long as he/she keeps their religion OUT of the Oval Office and all of our lives I don't care what religion they embrace. I'm not a fan of Romney, but it doesn't have anything to do with his religion.
- We had a Quaker for president (Nixon) and look how he made out. How about a Muslim for president and if you do not like what he said or did he will have your head chopped off.
- A persons religion shouldn't influence your vote, especially the doctrines of that religion. The fact that it makes them a moral, family oriented person can't be a negative. Look at how someone votes, their agenda, whether you can trust them, etc. and vote for the best man. Government and religion don't mix, that's why there are Mormons who are Democrats and Republican (See Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, big time Dem). Romney is a good guy, I agree.
- This I cannot understand...would a person vote against another person who had high moral values, honesty, and integrity because of their religion? That makes no sense, just because he is mormon, doesn't mean he wouldn't do a great job as a President. He at least stands up for what is right, how many politicians do that?
- Mormons are no weirder than those crazy cannibal cults that symbolically eat their gods flesh and drink his blood every Sunday! now those people are odd!
