Does anybody but me wonder something about Mitt Romney?
Governor Romney may be OK for all I know, but one thing makes me wonder. If he can't figure out that mormonism is a cult branch of traditional Christianity, which is specifically prohibited in the Bible, how is he going to figure out the hundreds of challenges that would face him as president?

- For the most part I like Mitt Romney, but something like your question nags at me too. Joseph Smith was a con man no matter how you look at it. Should someone who follows a religion established by a con man really be the leader of the free world?
- I personally will never vote for him, why? because religious beliefs have no buisness being involved in politics and he has already mentioned it... which means no vote from me, that stupid ass people forget that there is seperation of church and state... and I hate it so much I can't stand it sometimes.
- I've listened to him talk... seems like an intelligent guy that is in touch with the country. I know mormanism is... just weird. But I do think he can make intelligent decisions about the things that matter.
- First, I've read the entire bible. I am a born again christian. While it does strictly prohibit false teaching (teaching anything about the word of god that is not in the scripture as if it were in the scripture) it does NOT prohibit forming religious organizations. By that reasoning ALL faiths are wrong as NO christian faith was established when the vast majority of the books of the new testament were written. The early church of the time was a loose grouping of many separate churches and congregations. The false teaching prohibition is a VERY dangerous one. Going down that path can create ALOT of grief. The bible does list this particular sin as one of three sins that are all but unforgivable. 1. Denying the holy spirit. This is stated in the book of Daniel in the same general area as the prophecy of the coming of Christ. If you haven't read that prophecy, then do so if you are a believer and realizing how long before the birth of Christ that this prophecy was made it will give you cold chills. 2. False teaching (new testament 3. Doing ANYTHING that would drive someone away from God. Last but not least alhough I believe and push the idea that we are a christian nation I do NOT wnat a theocracy. Thus I will NOT hold my vote from Romney for your stated reasons.
- What I wonder about Romney is how he thinks he can win the Republican nomination for President, when he would have been defeated had he not taken the cowards way out, not running for re-election as Governor of Massachusetts!
- Why do you feel a Mormon theocracy would be any worse for the US than a fundamentalist Christian theocracy? Voting for anyone whose decisions are based faith rather than reason is simply voting for your own doom.
- I don't vote based on religion, but I have to admit that this has occurred to me as far as Romney and Mormonism goes. I feel the same way about Scientology. It's so far out there that I automatically question the intelligence of anyone who buys into it. I'm not voting Republican in any case, but it does bring up nagging questions.
- if some of you got some brains and studied up on some of the bull shit you sling around, you would know that half of it is not true. the LDS church is not a cult, we are not "so far out there", and we believe a lot of the same thing that every other christian believes, there is a god, Jesus Christ lived and is our savior. and we believe in the holy ghost. tell me how abnormal we are when our faiths are so close to yours! just because Romney is Mormon does not mean he will enter twine religion and state. i think next time you decide to go ahead and talk crap because of your own prejudices, which stems from being uneducated, you need to know your facts before you blurt them out of the gaping holes in your heads.
- who cares about the religion aspect so much as he is EXTREMELY wishy-washy.. he will change his views on KEY issues to suit whoever he is talking to.
- To me, he's just an empty suit/skull with nice hair--rather a resurrection of Reagan. Sends chills up one's back.
- I consider it very unfortunate to hear commentary that lacks comprehension of the LDS faith. If you are not fearful of doing so, I would invite anyone to attend the LDS congregation nearest you. You may go to www.lds.org and look under "Meetinghouse Locator" to find one close to you. Not to proselytize, but so that we can all better understand and respect each other. What's worse is that most of the venom spewed comes from "Christians." The LDS faith does not utilize criticism of other faiths as a platform for proselytizing, but it is common practice from those of the Bible Belt persuasion. Mitt Romney considers the law as it is written and the feelings of his constituents, not just those of his faith. Example: he has been on the other side of abortion in the past because he understands the separation of church and state, and he still does even though he has changed his view given his recent life experiences. The LDS Church supports separation of church and state and has long remained neutral in matters of voting for someone into public office, even if his name is Mitt Romney. So put your shortsighted understanding of religion off to the side, since no Presidential candidate is subject to a religion test per the Constitution, and make an informed decision on who best represents what is best for America's future. I think Romney is it.
- Last time I checked , we were at war with the Taliban. Why should we let one of their cousins inti the White House? This one happened 150 years ago but I think its still relevant because Mitt Romneys church pardoned a terrorist mass murderer of Americans and protected the 100 or so other Mormons involved from federal prosecution! It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story. 1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics. 2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians". 3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place). 4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later. 5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City. 6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960) It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead
- Would you not vote for a Jew, because "clearly" they cannot recognize the Jesus is the Christ? How far does your demand for everyone to be like you go?
- Amen to the answer directly above me. There have been numerous presidents and other elected officials that have been a member of one religion or another and it hasn't affected their ability to lead and enforce the laws of the country. Our country is founded on diversity of all types and respect for them, and the government keeps a sufficient barrier between government and religion. For someone to not vote for someone because of their religion shows a lack of understanding of our government and the Constitution. It also shows a lack of respect for those that may be different from the majority. All religions are based on faith, and are irrational to someone; all religions could be torn to pieces. However, I choose to respect all people and will vote for the best person, who has values similar to my own, who will seek to pass and enforce laws I favor, etc. I would hope all Americans would do the same.
- For the Hundredth time...Mormons are not a CULT....we to in fact believe in God the Eternal Father and in his son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost....They are Three personages...
- wow- your question is sad. this country was founded on religous tolerance. Where did it all go? First, if you haven't noticed over the last like hundreds of years, there is a seperation of church and state. So even if he wanted to impliment LDS beliefs into the system, do your really think anyone would let him? And second addressing the issue of his competency because of his belief, just because you believe it is cult, doen't make it a cult. We all choose our own beliefs and he has chosen one that speaks to his heart. And what is so cult like about it? I would it affect his presidency and the way he chooses to run the country? No one was claiming cult when the LDS church made to katrina victims before FEMA (and all victims, not just members) or the tsunami victims, the tornado victims etc. no one claims cult when the neighbor boy is mowing your lawn and helping carry in groceries. Funny how people claim cult, and yet think completley different about the actual people of the religion. Now ever religion has their bad apples, but most people say that mormons and kind, are giving, helpful, good people, hard workers etc." But none of that matters because they don't believe the exact same thing as me." If you ask me Romney falls unders that category. But unfortuantley there are people out there much like you that say "Who cares what kind of person he is, what he can do for our country, or what kind of morals he has, he believes in something that i don't." And really how much do you know about the LDS religion? Both sides, not just a half studied biased opinion. Really how much? If you ask me it's just plain old ignorance. And that's something we all belive in.
